They put up solid numbers for their teams last season, and definitely deserve to draw some attention their way. Take a look at 5 under the radar QB’s from the Sac-Joaquin Section:
Nicholas Coronado, 5’10” 155lbs, Kimball HS (C/O 2022)
Don’t let his size fool you, Coronado is a flat out playmaker. He shows an active upper half as a passer with flexibility, and moves around well in the pocket. He evades pressure well, and isn’t eager to leave the pocket if he doesn’t have to. He does a good job distinguishing whether to use touch vs velocity. Accurate passer all around, but shows excellent touch and trajectory on deep balls. He is a threat on the ground as well, and has shown the ability to get shifty in open space to make opponents miss. He shows a solid initial burst when he decides to take off, and is a dual-threat QB to get on your radar at the NAIA-D2 level.
JT Willis, 6’1″ 195lbs, Lincoln HS (C/O 2021)
Willis shows a good pocket presence and does a good job going through progression. He shows solid anticipation for routes and concepts to develop and has shown the ability to hit all 3 levels of throws with accuracy. The southpaw has excellent velocity on short and intermediate routes with good timing with his receivers. He throws well under pressure as he’s taken some hard shots after release. He’s flashed the ability to pick up yards on his feet when he needs to, but does his best work as a passer given his arm strength. He is currently getting attention from multiple D3-NAIA programs, along with D2 Minot State.
Seth Miguel, 6’1″ 195lbs, Hillmar HS (C/O 2021)
Miguel does an excellent job at extending plays and keeping his eyes downfield to connect with receivers. He possesses good arm strength and accuracy overall, and has shown flashes of hitting receivers in tight windows. He could improve overall pocket presence, and I would like to see him come to settle to throw instead of relying on just his arm. However, he’s displayed good athleticism as he’s shown the ability to make athletic throws off balance or on the run often. He’s done well hitting seams, outs, and back shoulder throws with excellent placement and timing. He can pick up yards on the ground and keep a defense honest with his feet.
Sean Nixon, 6’2″ 185lbs, Sheldon HS (C/O 2021)
Nixon is a solid improviser and a playmaker behind center. He’s shown active feet in the pocket and is an escape artist. Nixon has shown excellent placement and touch on deep balls, always giving his receivers a shot to make a play. He’s shown flashes of good velocity on various throws. He does a good job making athletic, accurate throws when pressured or on the run. He is a threat on the ground as well as he’s broken numerous runs for big gains. Efficient speed to break designed QB runs or scramble for big yards. He has a lengthy, lanky build with room to put on size, and shows solid potential going forward.
Aiden Meyer, 6’0″ 190lbs, Hughson HS (C/O 2021)
Meyer loves to air it out, as he has been highly effective with the deep ball. He could improve pocket presence and poise, but overall shows a good football IQ. He does a good job escaping the pocket and keeping his eyes downfield to deliver accurate throws, and does’t abandon the pass too early. Hughson runs zone reads/read options often, and he has shown to be an excellent decision maker whether to give or pull. When he decides to pull or take off, he shows a solid initial burst and often picks up big chunks of yards. Meyer is a solid athlete overall and could be a sneaky QB to have a big season.
