The 2023 prospect class is slim as of right now with the delayed season. Not too many freshman from last season saw a whole lot of varsity time. However, there are a handful of upcoming playmakers that showed some legit flashes of talent, giving them potential for a sneaky, big sophomore season. Take a look at 5 sophomores to remember in 2021:
Darien Witham, QB/DB, Thurston HS
Witham is an upcoming playmaker for Thurston. He did a good job extending plays and keeping his eyes downfield to find receivers for clutch gains at the freshman level. He has solid vision as a ball carrier and is slippery to bring down. He is shifty in open space shows good second level speed given his age. Witham is developing into a dual-threat QB and holds big potential. He'll have to improve his pocket movement and presence, but will have much time to develop. He was a dominating playmaker at the frosh level.
Hudson Davis, LB/RB, Newberg HS
Davis is a high motor, fly around fearless kid. As a ball carrier, he shows solid vision with a good burst through the hole. On defense, Davis

Davis is a high motor, fly around fearless kid. As a ball carrier, he shows solid vision with a good burst through the hole. On defense, Davis has solid instincts and reaction, and is developing strength at the POA. On varsity as a freshman, Davis racked up 16 tackles, and added 2 rushing TD's. Davis could have a big role this upcoming season as a sophomore, and will have a shot to mature all around and rise his stock.
Jeb Ethington, DL/RB, Colton HS
Ethington has shown solid play recognition and flows to the ball well. He does a good job breaking down to tackle and wrapping ball carriers up, but will need to improve his POA and striking power. He positions himself very nicely to make plays, and will just have to get more reps. At the varsity level last season, Ethington was able to rack up 21 tackles and 2 sacks. As a RB, Ethington showed flashes of a north-south type style with good physicality overall.
Gunner Rothenberger, DB/WR, Toledo HS
Rothenberger racked up 58 tackles, 37 of them solo, and one INT at the varsity level as a freshman last season. On offense, Rothenberger hauled in 7 receptions for 55 yards, and added 89 yards rushing with two TD's. He punted and returned kicks last season as well. Unfortunately, there is no football film on him. He's a dual sport basketball kid, and shows solid length and athleticism. Definitely a sleeper to get o your radar.
Hunter Reeve, WR/LB, Aloha HS
Reeve has flashed legit big play ability. HE has solid second level speed and can take the top off a defense. He's shown to be a solid route runner with route integrity. As a LB, he has good reaction and flies to the ball well. He's hawked down break away ball carriers showing excellent recovery speed. Reeve is a good athlete all around and could definitely develop into a legit deep threat receiver. Sneaky player to watch this season.
