Brandon Furbee Brandon Furbee 6'3" | QB Farmington | 2022 State NM , Grants: Possessing all the qualities college coaches look for in a next level quarterback (size, arm, leadership, football IQ, etc.), the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Furbee isn’t just the best quarterback and the top college prospect in Class 4A, but possibly for the entire state as well. He could be #1 in our revised 2022 prospect rankings to be released this spring. Best thing of all, Furbee isn’t just waiting around in Grants for good things to happen. He competed recently at the QB Universe camp in Phoenix. Last season Furbee led Grants to a 10-2 record and a spot in the 4A playoff semifinals by throwing for 1,611 yards and 20 TD. A shortened spring season means equaling those numbers will be challenging, but don’t bet against Furbee.
Dylan Quartieri Dylan Quartieri 6'1" | QB Raton | 2022 State NM , Raton: The 6-foot-1 Quartieri is the best passing quarterback in Class 3A with plenty of time to grow bigger and stronger. He could have the most college potential of any player at the 3A level. He’s one-half of arguably the most dynamic QB-RB combination in Class 3A along with RB Cayden Walton. Quartieri threw for 1,288 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2019. He also ran for 250 yards as a complement Walton. Raton is going to be exceedingly difficult for opposing defenses to stop this spring.
Daniel Ayala Daniel Ayala 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB West Mesa | 2022 State NM , West Mesa: West Mesa generally doesn’t get much love from the media or fans in the Albuquerque Metro area, so Ayala has largely flown under the radar for his entire career. How good is Ayala? He’s been invited to participate in a QB Universe Retreat in late May in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Ayala and RB Ja’Calvin Newsom will form a formidable duo in the spring. Look for West mesa to make some noise.
Luc Jaramillo, Santa Fe: Helping to spark the revival of Santa Fe football, Jaramillo passed for 890 yards and nine touchdowns in 2019, while rushing for 285 yards on 93 carries. Meanwhile, RB Martell Mora Martell Mora 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Santa Fe High | 2022 State NM did most of the heavy lifting in the run game with 851 yards on 129 carries (6.6 yards per carry) while catching a team-high 20 passes out of the backfield. Santa Fe looks to make some noise this spring in their return to Class 6A. Starting with Jaramillo, they have the talent to do it.
Aiden Rosser Aiden Rosser 5'10" | QB Onate | 2022 State NM , Onate: The Knights struggled in 2019 with a 1-9 record, but Rosser was a bright spot, taking over as the starting QB late in the season. He displayed a strong throwing arm and savvy in the pocket for a young QB. With Las Cruces and Centennial both starting senior quarterbacks this spring, Rosser could be the best signal caller in his home city in the fall.
Honorable Mention: Matthew Gonzales Matthew Gonzales 5'5" | QB Robertson | 2022 State NM (Robertson); Elias Franco (Eldorado); Hagen Rains (Portales); Colton Graham (Hobbs); Daysean Fuentes (Albuquerque).
