DBs also have to be ready for the run and often make solo open-field tackles. These five recruits from the class of 2022 are some of the best in the state of Oregon. With it being over a year since they’ve gotten to play an actual football game, it’s exciting to think about the talent these players will show off once games do begin again. Let’s take a look at the top five defensive backs in Oregon.
Trejon Williams Trejon Williams 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Jefferson | 2022 State OR – 6’0, 180lbs, Jefferson High School (Portland, OR)
The 4-star safety from Jefferson High School is becoming a big name, not just in the state of Oregon, but nationally. He currently ranks 9th at the safety position across the nation according to 247 Sports. He has excellent speed and the strength to rip away 50/50 balls from the receiver. Williams is also exciting to watch on offense, carrying the ball with confidence and elusiveness. This is a well-rounded player who is going to make any team better at the next level.
Cole Prusia Cole Prusia 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB Tualatin | 2022 State OR – 6’2, 180lbs, Tualatin High School (Tualatin, OR)
Prusia is a cornerback out of Tualatin High School. He has good size, good speed, and stays right on the hip of the receiver. Prusia also earns action at the wide receiver position, where he has showcased his catching ability. He can go get a 50/50 ball and break up a lot of passes, which is a testament to his positioning when covering the receiver on defense. He always gives himself a chance to make a play on the ball.
Isaac Perez Isaac Perez 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Westview | 2022 OR – 6’0, 180lbs, Westview High School (Portland, OR)
Perez, as a freshman for Westview, started out playing at the wide receiver position and on special teams. However, he’s made a name for himself as a defensive back. Perez doesn’t shy away from contact, has great hands, and good speed in the open field. It’s this skill set that earned him a spot on the pre-season watch list for the all-defense team in the state of Oregon.
Dylan Layne Dylan Layne 6'2" | 200 lbs | DB Lake Oswego | 2022 State OR – 6’2, 193lbs, Lake Oswego High School (Lake Oswego, OR)
This defensive back from Lake Oswego, Oregon has great instincts and makes a lot of tackles at and behind the line of scrimmage. Layne plays aggressively and with his size, can match up against taller receivers and bigger running backs. However, this doesn’t slow him down. He can move quickly around the field, which, combined with his great instincts, puts him in the best position to make a play.
Josiah Manning Josiah Manning 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Clackamas | 2022 OR – 5’10, 160lbs, Clackamas High School (Clackamas, OR)
What stands out the most about Manning is his ability to shed blocks efficiently and make-open field tackles. His quickness, as well as his play recognition, allow him to read the situation effectively and attack; whether it’s a ball in the air or a play on the ground. The cornerback out of Clackamas High School can also deliver a hit on the ball carrier.
