The middle Georgia powerhouse took easy care of the region that includes some other really impressive programs. The Demons are loaded with talent, but the other teams in the region also displayed some high-quality talent throughout the 2020 season.
Here are a few standout players from the region who had breakout years in 2020.
Warner Robins:
It starts and ends with senior QB Jalen Addie Jalen Addie 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Warner Robins | 2021 State GA . The dual-threat QB led an outstanding Demons offense to the state title with ease and ended the season with a statement 62-28 win over Cartersville. The 6-foot-3 205-pounder was dynamic in 2020, throwing for 1,944 yards and rushing for and 947 yards. He threw 21 TD passes and rushed for 11 more. He kept defenses on their heels all year and executed Warner Robin’s offense to perfection.
On defense, the Demons were led by sensational sophomore DE Vic Burley and senior LB Demarcious Robinson, an Army commitment. Robinson was a tackling machine for Warner Robins, making 118 total tackles and recording four sacks. Burley, one of the top-ranked defenders in the entire 2023 class, ended the season with 56 tackles and 11 sacks. Burley showed why he’s a possible future five star with his ability to get after the passer and hold the edge in the run game. He currently holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, among others.
Ware County:
South Georgia defender Trey Hargrove is one of the top underclassmen linebackers in the state. The 5-foot-11 195-pound athlete made 87 total tackles (67 solo/42 assists) with 5 sacks, 8 TFLs, and 7 pressures. Hargrove has SEC potential because of his natural athleticism. He can run, he’s physical, and he has a true nose for the football. Hargrove can cover man-to-man but also help stop the run game. He’s an exceptional edge rusher with great use of his hands. He’s also a very smart player and leader as only a sophomore. Hargrove led a very good Gator defense that allowed 30+ points only twice all season. The Gators made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs before losing to Cartersville.
On offense, Thomas Castellanos Thomas Castellanos 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Ware County | 2022 State GA one of the best dual-threat QBs in the state, and the South Georgia star had a giant junior season where he lead the Gators to a 10-2 record and a deep run into the playoffs. The dynamic playmaker gave defenses nightmares all year, passing for 2,881 yards and 23 TDs while also rushing for 939 and 24 more TDs. He was electric and made plays that you just don’t see very often. He’s so tough to coral as a runner and has the arm talent to play at a Power 5 school.
Coffee:
The Trojans has an excellent year in 2020, making a deep playoff run out of possible the toughest region in 5A. On offense, Coffeee’s success came from 2022 ATH Maurice Turner. The 5-foot-10 175-pound RB/WR rushed 78 times for 598 yards and 9 TDS. The playmaking junior also caught 40 passes for 691 yards and 5 more TDS. Turner has very good ball skills and can line up anywhere on the field. He’s fast, explosive, and could lead Coffee even further in the 2021 playoffs with a big senior season.
On defense, the Trojans were led by 2020 linebacker Anthony Gaskin. The 6-foot-2 195-pounder has the body type to add some pounds to his frame. He was very productive as a junior, making 113 tackles on the year with 8 TFLs, one sack, and 10 hurries.
Wayne County:
If there’s one Yellow Jacket to know from the 2020 season, it’s offensive lineman Owen Spell. The massive 6-foot-6 315-pounder played right tackle for Wayne County is 2020 but will move over to tackle for his senior season next fall. Spell finished with 55 pancakes and an overall grade of 86% for the season. He’s a big body with impressive intangibles and a high ceiling. His pass set is calm and consistent and he has a true competitive spirit and a love for the game. Look for the Jesup native to get plenty of interest from schools in the offseason.
