Here are a few under the radar athletes in the 2022 class who have a chance to have a breakout season in 2021.
Treston Jordan – Denmark
Jordan plays defensive back specifically, but make no mistake, the Denmark Dane is one of the top overall athletes in the region. He does hold an offer from Troy, but more could be on the way for the athletic safety. Jordan is coming off an impressive junior season where he made 43 tackles, 3 TFLs, 4 INTs, and 5 pass deflections. He uses his intelligence and the Danes were able to do a lot on defense this year because he was essentially the QB on defense. He always made sure the defense was lined up correctly and was consistently in the right spot to make plays because he is a cerebral player. He shows great ball skills and the ability to cover bigger receivers. He can jump, has good instincts, and could be on his way to a breakout senior season.
Kobe Jones – LaGrange
If there’s an athlete to know in west Georgia, it’s Jones. Offensively, Jones caught 9 passes for 295 yards 4 TD’s. Defensively, he made 39 tackles and picked off four passes. He’s a true playmaker on both sides of the ball. He has great speed, and showed reliable hands and ball skills throughout the year. The staff at Lagrange has high expectations for Jones in 2021 and expect him to not leave the field on either side of the ball. He has a real chance this year to prove he is one of the best playmakers in Georgia.
Tyler Griffin – Southeast Bulloch
In Southeast Georgia, there’s always under the radar talent in that rural part of the state. A rising prospect from the area in 2021 is Southeast Bulloch playmaker, Tyler Griffin. Offensively, Griffin rushed for 504 yards (10.7 ypc) and 3 TDs. He also made plays as a receiver with 605 yards and 8 TDs. Defensively, the 6-foot-4 200-pounder made 51 tackles, 4 TFLs, 4 PBU, and 1 interception that was returned for TD. His high school staff believes his biggest strength is his field vision and home run ability. He can score from wherever on the field and has the size needed to make plays over smaller defenders. He’s such a gifted player who consistently makes big plays no matter where he’s lined up. Griffin holds offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Colorado, and Georgia Tech.
Maurice Turner – Coffee
Another South Georgia athlete to know is the star from Coffee. The 5-foot-10 175-pound do-it-all athlete is coming off an impressive junior season where he made plays all over field on both sides of the ball. As a rusher, Turner ran 78 times for 598 yards and 9 TDs. As a receiver, he caught 40 passes for 691 yards and 5 TDs. Turner showed why he has some of the best ball skills in the region. He can line up anywhere on the field and has great speed. He knows how to make a defender miss in close spaces and shows great burst and big-play ability.
