Defensive back Tommy Lujan Tommy Lujan 5'11" | DB Rio Rancho | 2021 State NM , who helped spark Rio Rancho to the Class 6A state championship game in 2019, picked up his first offer from Eastern New Mexico earlier this week.
He’s spoken with a number of other schools as well.
“Getting my first offer, I was just filled with excitement and smiles,” Lujan told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “This may have been my first offer, but Eastern New Mexico is not the only school I have been in contact with.”
The offer finally came after extensive conversations with the ENMU coaching staff.
“I’ve had a good number of conversations with some of the coaches,” Lujan said. “The first coach who contacted took different job somewhere else. I had kept it touch with him since the 2019 state championship game. Since his departure from ENMU, I’ve been in contact with Coach (Andrew) McCraw.”
Lujan was one of Rio Rancho’s top defensive players in 2019, finishing with 43 tackles, 2.0 TFL and three interceptions in 11 games. He also caught four passes for 33 yards. He’ll likely continue as a two-way player in the spring.
“In my final season, I will be rotating in at three positions,” Lujan said. “My senior tape will show my versatility. I love to compete. Playing defensive back is fun. When there’s competition, I want to be the best.”
CAPITAL RB TAKING VISITS: 2021 Capital running back Luke Padilla Luke Padilla 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Capital | 2021 State NM is one of the best players in the state at his position. His recruiting has picked up steam over the past few months and he currently holds five offers: Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Lawrence Tech, University of St. Francis, Mount Marty University and Arizona Christian University.
Padilla told Prep Redzone New Mexico that he’s visiting Fort Lewis College in Durango this weekend and plans to visit Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, OK within the next couple of weeks. He could visit other schools as well before the end of the month, and is currently working around visit restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oklahoma Panhandle State is playing a split schedule in 2020-21 due to the pandemic. OPS played four nonconference games in the fall before facing six Sooner Athletic Conference opponents in the spring starting Feb. 20.
Padilla said he intends to sign with his school of choice during the upcoming late signing period in February.
