Auburn is the 23rd school to offer Cardwell and the fifth school in the SEC to extend the offer.
Cardwell of Morse High (San Diego) is the best running back in the state and fun to watch on film. He is built at around 205 pounds and fast enough to make big, explosive plays. He also can make plays in the passing game out of the backfield. Greg Biggins of 247Sports compared him to Melvin Gordon and thinks he’s a future NFL player.
He will announce his choice of school on Jan. 25 and many experts expect Cal, Oregon and UCLA to be the top three schools to land Cardwell.

Update on the top prospect in the 2022 class
Mater Dei defensive back Domani Jackson Domani Jackson 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB Mater Dei | 2022 State CA said he will announce his commitment on Jan. 23, the date of his parents’ anniversary.
He is the No. 1 prospect in California’s class of 2022 according to Prep Redzone and the No. 3 prospect in the nation according to 247Sports.
Jackson has decided he is ready to commit and his final six includes Arizona State, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC.
“In terms of the timing, the main thing is I’m already becoming a little tired of the recruiting process. It can be a hassle and I feel confident with my school choice,” Jackson told Biggins. “I just feel if you know what you’re doing, why waste anyone’s time. This way, the schools can move on and I can start recruiting for the school I choose.”

Alemany DL commits to Cal
Cal scored an early commitment from Alemany (Mission Hills) defensive lineman Damonic Williams Damonic Williams 6'3" | 320 lbs | DL Bishop Alemany | 2022 State CA .
Williams is the third ranked defensive lineman in California’s 2022 class and the No. 22 overall prospect in the class according to Prep Redzone.
“I had a zoom meeting last week with a few of the coaches at Cal and some of the academic staff too,” Williams told Biggins. “I actually did a couple of zoom calls with them and they made me feel very comfortable that Cal would be a great fit for me, both athletically and academically.
“With everything going on right now, our season being delayed and possibly canceled, there’s just a lot of unknown. That carries over to recruiting too for my class and I thought it just made sense to lock in my decision now and get that off my shoulders.”
Williams is the first player in the 2022 class to commit to Cal.
