Campbell liked the environment in Cedar City and the campus of Southern Utah. He visited the town with his parents and watched the team practice from a distance.
“The overall fit and the coaches is what made me decide to commit to Southern Utah. It is a small city so I feel like I can focus on school and football which are the two main things,” Campbell said. “I like the town. It is filled with kind and respectful people.”
Southern Utah’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Kenan Smith recruited Campbell as well as head coach Demario Warren.
“I have a strong relationship with both of them. We talk every week not just about football, but life as well,” Campbell said.
Campbell said that Cal Poly and Nevada were also heavily recruiting him and he build a strong connection with Cal Poly’s wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator Nick Edwards.
This offseason, he has not been playing club football but has been very active in 7-on-7 leagues and the camp circuit.
“I have been playing 7v7 with Fast Camp with Coach Kevin Brown. I attended the 1st Round Exposure Camp (Team Mikasi) and did pretty well there as well,” Campbell said. “I want to give a special thanks to Coach Akili for all of the training and mentoring he has given me. I also want to thank my strength and conditioning coaches Chris and Dusty.”

Campbell is the fifth ranked receiver in the San Diego area according to Prep Redzone and the No. 34 overall receiver in the state.
He was the leading receiver for Mater Dei last season, tallying 21 yards per catch and four touchdowns. If Mater Dei gets to play this season, the receiving duo of Campbell and Josh Meredith Josh Meredith 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Mater Dei Catholic | 2021 State CA and the arm of quarterback Trevor Appelman could possibly be one of the best passing offenses in San Diego.
“I want there to be a season. I want one last chance to play with my brothers,” Campbell said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and coaches so all of the credit goes to them. Trevor and I have a connection that I think personally is the best in San Diego. We always throw with each other. Our connection helped me get the scholarship because he let me showcase what I can do on the field.”
