Let’s jump into Part 1 of our 2022 York County Early Watch List series. Read until the end because we’ll be revealing one 2024 name to watch. Be on the lookout for future versions of this series because we will be rolling them over the weeks and months to come.

6 EARLY 2022 PLAYERS TO WATCH
Rock Hill – DE/TE Luke Bracey
*2020 Season Stats: 36 solo tackles, 13 TFLs, 7.5 sacks, 13 assisted tackles, 16 QB pressures, 3 PBUs, 33 FFs, 2 fumble recoveries
Analysis: At 6’6, Bracey is a nightmare to try to block at defensive end. His first step when the ball is snapped is impressive. You’re not going to block this guy with a one-on-one block as he’s great with his hands in bringing the fight to the offensive lineman. He wraps up and bring the force to the quarterback. He’s also versatile in that the Rock Hill Bearcats used him at tight end in 2020. You couldn’t blame them with his size which is a credit to the fact he plays basketball at well. He goes up and make the catch like the forward position he plays on the hardwood. His position coach says he is getting Division 1 interest from LSU and we believe other schools will follow suit soon.
Northwestern – QB Will Mattison Will Mattison 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Northwestern | 2022 State SC
*2020 Season Stats: 132/204, 1526 yards, 16 TDs (8 games)
Analysis: Mattison was part of an explosive Northwestern offense in 2020 in the eight games they played. He excels in making all the throws, particularly the intermediate 10 to 15 yard throw and the deep ball. We were impressed with the way he steps into his throws. If you’re a defensive back, be careful jumping the screen game because this guy recognizes it quickly and can make defenses pay with a nice pump fake and selling it for a big chunk play or in some cases, it’s a 75-yard touchdown. He was an All-Region player in the 2020 season. Looking at his Twitter, it doesn’t look like he has any offers yet but that will be changing soon.
Fort Mill – OL/DT Marcus Boston Brinkley Marcus Boston Brinkley 6'3" | 280 lbs | OL Fort Mill | 2022 State SC
Analysis: Brinkley is a two-way player who played primarily at offensive tackle and was an impactful one as well. He’s great with his hands in being physical with the defensive lineman and is impressive in getting to the second level and going one-on-one with linebackers. That makes his impact at defensive tackle that much greater because he knows what offensive linemen like to do. We saw one play from his junior season film where he plugged up the rush lane before the running back could get started. He was the team MVP and was an All-Region selection during the 2020 season. He’s impressive in the classroom with a 4.65 GPA.
Catawba Ridge – DE Asa Johnson Asa Johnson 5'11" | 260 lbs | DL Catawba Ridge | 2022 State SC
*2020 Season Stats: 78 tackles, 8 sacks, 18 TFLs, 1 fumble recovery
Analysis: Good luck trying to run against this nose tackle. In watching the first few clips of his 2020 film, he defeated one-on-one, double team blocks and when teams tried to run inside, it’s a minimal to no gain. If somehow you’re able to get going on an outside run, he has a motor that’s always running and will track down the ball carrier in a hurry. He has an impressive spin move as well to get off blocks and chase plays from behind as well. He is a two-year team captain and was selected by coaches in the local area as defensive lineman of the year and was an All-State honorable mention. He’s an outstanding student with a 4.29 GPA.
Nation Ford – WR Jerrick Foster Jerrick Foster 5'10" | 150 lbs | WR Nation Ford | 2022 State SC
*2020 Season Stats: 26 receptions, 401 yards, 5 TDs (5 games)
Analysis: To have only played in five games during the 2020 season, Foster made the most of it. He was used in the slot position at receiver. This guy can flat out fly and take the top off the defense. In watching his clips, he just looks smooth and just glides away from defenders once he catches it, which we saw on screens and intermediate pass routes over the middle. His speed also makes an impact on special teams as he is a threat to take it to the house any time he touches it.
Legion Collegiate Academy – OT/DT Parker Prevette
Analysis: Prevette is a two-way player for the Lancers, a brand new program that is on their way to opening up their own facility in 2021. He is a solid right tackle who uses his hands and feet very well and we saw on his film several pancake blocks and one block where he denied the defensive end any penetration in the backfield. That experience on the offensive line also helps him at defensive tackle as he knows the movement of offensive linemen. He has a motor that’s running and won’t stop until he gets to the quarterback.
ONE 2024 NAME TO WATCH
Catawba Ridge – QB Jadyn Davis Jadyn Davis 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB Providence Day | 2024 State NC
Analysis: If Jaydn’s freshman year is any indication of what’s to come, the Copperheads will be competing for, and winning championships, like they almost did in 2020. Davis only played in 6 games due to an injury, but this guy can sling it, whether it’s the deep ball where he can drop it where only his receiver can get or move the pocket and make a throw on the run. His athleticism is impressive and he’s got wheels on him for sure in the read option game. He already has offers from Georgia and Alabama. Davis was also the Football University 8th Grade National Player of the Year. We believe those won’t be only offers he will be receiving over the next three years.
