2022 Rankings: Breaking Down The Upstate (Part 1)

With a little under one-third of our Class of 2022 rankings players coming from the Upstate, it is by far the most represented zone in all of South Carolina. This tightly packed crop of talent is vast. Needless to say, we’re going to need a few entries to get to them all. Over the course of a week, we will break down every single one of the players from this ultra-rich zone, one we expect top-flight production from next fall. Malik HarperMalikHarper6'0" | LBBoiling Springs | 2022StateSC School: Boiling Springs Position: Linebacker Analysis: Harper is strong enough - even at 6-feet and 190 pounds - to frequently line up with both hands on the ground along the interior of the line. It’s a nice complement to his tackling prowess. Griffin BattGriffinBatt6'2" | DLDW Daniel | 2022StateSC School: Daniel Position: Defensive line Analysis: The 6-foot-2, 220-pound end is a powerful edge rusher who abused opposing tackles all season. He had 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 10 games for the Class 3A champs. Bryce HambyBryceHamby5'10" | DBSeneca | 2022StateSC School: Seneca Position: Defensive back Analysis: Hamby has a nose for the football, whether he is at corner or the free safety spot. He broke up seven passes and had three interceptions in just four games last year. Tyler SonnebornTylerSonneborn6'2" | OLSouthside Christian | 2022StateSC School: Southside Christian Position: Offensive line Analysis: Sonneborn started on offense, defense and special teams for the most dominant Class A team in the state last season, and he produced in all three phases. Jykorie GaryJykorieGary5'9" | RBClinton | 2022StateSC School: Clinton Position: Running back Analysis: Gary doesn’t jump off the roster - he’s 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds - but he is every bit the catalyst for a Clinton offense that has found creative ways to put the ball in his hands. Dylan RamirezDylanRamirez6'2" | QBBroome | 2022StateSC School: Broome Position: Quarterback Analysis: The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Centurions quarterback is adept at the play-action, a testament to his quick decision making and arm strength. He makes both look effortless.
