The quarterback position grouping for the class of 2022 has flown under the radar. However, this will be an opportunity for fans and scouts to get a look at some of the most talented signal callers in the state of Arkansas.
One team that has the opportunity to surprise fans this season is the Siloam Springs Panthers. The Panthers have talent returning on the offensive side of the ball and quarterback Hunter Talley Hunter Talley 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Siloam Springs | 2022 State AR will have a big role to play in how well Siloam Springs plays this season. Talley displays a strong arm and is accurate on his deep passes. He is able to fit the ball into windows that are extremely tight. Talley uses his legs well and can extend the plays when needed. He is a dangerous runner in the open field and has a second gear that can leave defenders behind him. He has a chance this season to really show scouts what he can do, and they should come away impressed.
Meanwhile, in Newport, Eli Alcorn Eli Alcorn 5'10" | 155 lbs | QB Newport | 2022 State AR displays plenty of versatility for the Greyhounds. Alcorn does an excellent job of extending the play by using his legs to escape the pocket and make the throws to his receivers that come open. As a runner, Alcorn is dangerous in the open field. He has good speed and is difficult to bring down. Alcorn has the arm accuracy to make all the throws needed to run the Greyhounds’ offense. The Newport coaching staff does a great of putting Alcorn in positions to be successful. Alcorn has excellent potential and I look forward to seeing what he will accomplish this season.
The central part of the state continues to produce some talented signal callers. It should come as no surprise to find Jordan Mills Jordan Mills 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Hot Springs Lakeside | 2022 State AR from Lakeside High School in Hot Springs on the list of quarterbacks that have the potential for a big 2021 season. Mills is a very accurate passer on the intermediate and deep routes. He does a great job of being able to scan the field and he does not lock on to just one wide receiver. Mills moves around in the pocket enough to give him additional time look down field and complete the pass to his receiver. He has shown that he can throw his receivers open and will not hang them out to dry. Mills has the potential to really make some noise from a recruiting perspective this season.
Over in Jonesboro, the Hurricane have a quarterback that is an accurate passer in his own right. Rykar Acebo Rykar Acebo 6'4" | 170 lbs | QB Jonesboro | 2022 State AR throws a tremendously accurate deep ball. He does a great job of making it easy on his wide receivers and putting the ball right on the money for them. Acebo throws the intermediate and short routes with accuracy and shows good touch on his throws. He moves around in the pocket well enough to buy time to throw the football. Acebo has tremendous potential and college coaches would do well to save his name in the phone.
The final player we are going to examine in part two of this series is Jacksonville quarterback Deorius Cobbs Deorius Cobbs 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Jacksonville | 2022 State AR . Cobbs plays multiple positions for the Titans and is a playmaker all over the field. From the quarterback position, Cobbs displays great instincts, and he knows when to take off with the football. He is a nightmare to bring down in the open field. He has good accuracy on his passes and enough touch to not burn his receivers hands off. Cobbs has the potential to really catch some eyes at both the quarterback and the linebacker positions. Stay tuned for part three of our look at 2022 quarterbacks.
