The ability to get out of their stance and be a natural knee bender, having no wasted movements when they transition their weight whether in pass protection or in the run game. They must have the physical strength but also have good “core” strength to be able to set and anchor which is especially in pass protection. Today we are going to highlight five 2022 offensive tackles to keep an eye on from the LoneStar State!
Hunter Erb 6-7 305 Eaton High School
An impressive physical athlete at the offensive tackle position and is explosive with his movements, a natural knee bender that has active leg drive and rolls his hips to generate power. He demonstrates the ability to shock defenders upon contact, he works well out in space and shows the quickness and his strength with the ability to gain an advantage and cutoff and pin the defender.
Kentrell Mason 6-7 298 Humble High School
A physical offensive tackle that has an explosive first step off the line and you can see from his film that he just engulfs defenders with his ability to generate movement off the line of scrimmage. He works quickly and effectively to reach the second level and can adjust and sustain blocks while moving In space.
Bryce Simpson 6-6 295 Cypress Ranch High School
A dominant run blocker which he has strong “heavy hands’ to land consistent strikes on defenders and latches on them and drives them out of the running lanes and generates movement on a consistent basis. He is patient in his sets while in pass protection, does not lunge or over sets on a defender but is confident in his mechanics to perform at a high level.
Cameron Williams Cameron Williams 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Duncanville | 2022 State TX 6-7 320 Duncanville High School
An athletic dominant offensive tackle that demonstrates his pure athletic ability by showing he can quick set and is able to on an island and show that he can mirror the movements of a defensive end effortlessly. He is a fierce run blocker in which he locks on to the defender and finishes blocks with a nasty demeanor and does it on a consistent basis.
Ben Rios 6-5 270 San Antonio Central Catholic High School
When you watch him he demonstrates the natural ability to shock defenders at the line of scrimmage, he explodes through his blocks and shows good body control while sustaining blocks. He is technically sound in pass protection, he can quickly set and anchor against oncoming pass rushers demonstrate good body control as well.
