The most recent came last week when Chaminade cornerback Cameron Epps Cameron Epps 6'3" | 205 lbs | DB Chaminade | 2022 State MO made an early pledge to Oklahoma State University, picking the Cowboys over offers from Arkansas, Kansas and others.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder has already been an impact player at the varsity level for two seasons. He racked up 53 tackles, a sack and an interception as a sophomore and then followed that up as a two-way player — playing cornerback and quarterback — this fall. He passed for 487 yards and seven touchdowns and ran for 485 yards and three scores as Chaminade went 4-2.
Epps’ commitment follows pledges from several 2022 standouts.
John Burroughs defensive end Tyson Ford Tyson Ford 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL John Burroughs | 2022 State MO (Notre Dame), Lutheran St. Charles running back Arlen Harris Jr Arlen Harris Jr 5'11" | 200 lbs | RB Lutheran-St. Charles | 2022 State MO . (Stanford) and St. Louis University High defensive back Isaac Thompson Isaac Thompson 6'1" | 195 lbs | DB St. Louis University High | 2022 State MO (Missouri) are the top three rated prospects in the class and have all made early commitments.
Parkway West wide receiver Ja’Marion Wayne Ja’Marion Wayne 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Parkway West | 2022 State MO (Missouri), Lutheran North cornerback Caldra Williford Caldra Williford 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Lutheran North | 2022 State MO (Kansas) and Festus athlete Kaian Roberts-Day Kaian Roberts-Day 6'4" | 255 lbs | TE Festus | 2022 State MO (Baylor) have all made early pledges.
Another Missouri 2022 standout, wide receiver Luther Burden, made an early commitment to Oklahoma but has since transferred from Cardinal Ritter High School in Missouri to East St. Louis in Illinois.
There are plenty of talented uncommitted players left on the board. Only three of the top 10 players in the Class of 2022 have made commitments.
Of course, there’s also plenty of time for these early commitments to change their minds as more schools enter the picture and give their best sales pitches. Epps received an offer from the University of Missouri on Tuesday and you can bet the Tigers will try their best to get him to reconsider his pledge.
