Just like in the first article, I will go through each of the athletes’ Hudl accounts and then provide a scouting report of what traits I believe they have to offer a college program. For any athletes looking to have their film reviewed and be included in the next article feel free to send it to myself on Twitter at @MJ_NFLDraft or the Prep Redzone Wisconsin account @PrepRedzoneWI! This isn’t just for the Class of 2022 either. If you play high school football in Wisconsin you qualify. Let’s get started!
Josh Hodges, DL- Nicolet
Josh is new to me and I have made sure to get him included in our rankings update for the Class of 2022. He is a stout defensive lineman checking in at 6′ 225 lbs. He moves smoothly with that weight too. Josh mostly played with his hand in the dirt, but he has shown that he can stand up on the edge and be just as effective setting the edge or rushing the QB. The first thing that really jumped off the tape is how much burst he plays with. When he recognizes the play and reacts he can go from engaged with a blocker to disengaged and closing on the ball handler in the blink of an eye. Hodges’ natural, heavy hands and lateral quickness are his keys to disengaging and beating those blocks. His initial punch can give him the separation to get around linemen and his ability to evade blocks laterally once he gets that separation makes him a hard target to hit and an even harder defender to maintain a block on. Check out his Junior Season here!
Nick Ferge Nick Ferge 6'5" | 190 lbs | WR Marquette University | 2022 State WI , WR- Milwaukee Marquette
Nick brings a very intriguing package to the table. It starts with him passing the eye test with flying colors. He checks in at 6’5″ 190 lbs. Then he adds to that the smooth movement skills that leads me to believe he could have success at the D1 level as a receiver or TE. Ferge creates separation with ease as a receiver. His long strides eat up turf and allows him to pull away on deep routes and he has a nose for soft spots in zone coverage. Even if he is covered tightly his size allows him to create separation because you can trust that he is always open 6″ over his head. Nick is such a natural hands catcher too. He plucks the ball out of the air with ease and can contort his body to make the catch even when the ball is slightly off target. The more I learn about Nick it is clear he is a naturally gifted athlete overall as it turns out he is also a D1 level lacrosse player, so we will have to watch and see what route he chooses to go down. I don’t think he could go wrong with either as he could play both at the highest level. This is must watch film!
Dominik McVay Dominik McVay 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Mineral Point | 2022 State WI , ATH- Mineral Point
I was able to catch nine games in person this past fall including one at Mineral Point. Dominik’s performance on that night was one of the most impressive performances I saw as he scored on two KO returns and scored on offense too. The more I followed him the more I realized that he consistently performed in the same game breaking fashion week after week. McVay comes in at 5’10” 185 lbs and he can fly. If you can get the ball in his hands in space he is going to dominate defenses. He has the elusiveness to make any defender miss in space and he has the burst and speed to fly through gaps and take it the distance. Dominik finds success in so many ways too. He can return kicks, make game breaking plays out of the backfield, or lined up as a receiver. That versatility should be highly sought after by the next level. He is a must watch. Check out his ELECTRIC film!
Allen Torian, DL- Living Word
Allen an emerging talent on the defensive line. I believe he is just scratching the surface on his potential. Allen currently stands at 6’3″ 210 lbs and has all the quick twitch you want to see on the defensive line. His first step gives him the advantage over offensive linemen and his equally quick hands allow him to get the lineman’s hands off him quickly. I am a big fan of the motor he plays with too. It seems like every single play he is going all out like it is his last. There is never a drop off in effort and you will see him pursuing ball carriers all over the field. Allen currently plays on the interior a lot, but I believe his traits best suit the DE position at the next level. There is a lot for a college DL coach to work with here. Have a look for yourself right here!
Joe Ollman, RB- Homestead
Ollman has turned into one of my favorite players to watch on film after highlighting several weeks of his 2020 season in previous articles. He has so much to offer the college level. He checks in at 6’2″ 205 lbs and offers a very well balanced attack. He can run with power, break tackles, and drag defenders to pick up the tough yards with the best of them. Then he can get out in space and surprise you with his speed. Ollman is more of a long strider when he gets in the open field as he easily pulls away from defenders. Joe’s best trait, in my eyes, is his vision as a ball carrier. He sees lanes quickly and hits them without pause. That vision has allowed him to make an impact as more than a running back. Joe is also a very effective kick returner. His vision allows him to see blocks, and set up potential blocks that spring him for huge returns. This is going to be a dude to get on early in the recruiting process. Check out the film here!
Kennan Stowers Kennan Stowers 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH New Richmond | 2022 State WI , ATH- New Richmond
Kennan is a big play waiting to happen on offense. He can do it while lining up anywhere on the field too. Just click on the tape and you will see him make big plays while at QB, WR, and taking hand offs on jet sweeps. It is fun to watch his versatility be on full display. Stowers checks in at 5’11” 170 lbs and has the speed to break games wide open. If you can get the ball to him out in space he has shown that he is very hard to contain. Then add in the fact that he also flies around from the safety position on defense and deliver surprisingly hard hits for his size and you get a player that can make an impact in a lot of ways. I really enjoy the physicality he plays with too. You almost don’t expect it when you see how athletic he is. I expect to see him embarrass defenders in space like he does, but then he will throw DBs to the ground as a blocker or destroy a ball carrier when he flies up from his safety position. It will be interesting to see how he is used as a senior. See the traits for yourself!
Alexander Perelshtein, DL- Homestead
I was first introduced to Alex at the Prep Redzone Wisconsin Showcase. He had a strong performance there and now that I have watched through his film I am even more of a fan. Alex currently checks in at 5’11” 230 lbs. While Alex may not have the best length for the position, don’t let that stop you from checking him out. Alex is also a heavyweight wrestler where he was ranked 5th in Wisconsin. That tells me that he clearly knows how to handle and control bigger bodies and it shows up in his football film where he fully embraces the low man wins mentality. Not only is he able to play lower than the rest of the linemen around him, but he has the physical tools to win in the trenches. His hands are heavy and he has the short area quickness to capitalize on any room that an offensive lineman might give him. Alex’s film also shows him having success from all three spots along the Homestead defensive line. Have a look here!
Tristan Moctezuma, OL/DL- Sheboygan Lutheran
I have watched Tristan a few times to this point and I haven’t been able to decide which side of the ball he should play on. He has shown success and traits that will translate to the next level on both sides. This is definitely a good problem to have. Colleges love 6’3″ 270+ lbs versatile, athletic, and strong linemen. That is what we have here with Tristan. Moctezuma is a tone setter in the trenches. He plays with a mean streak and is going to go all out through the whistle. The strength he shows while playing defensive line is something that really jumps out to me. He can control the offensive lineman and throw him wherever he wants to. While on offense, Tristan takes that to the next level as he uses that ability to control opposing linemen to open up running lanes and shut down bull rushers. Check him out below!
Caleb Rinard, LB- De Pere
Caleb is going to be a player to watch this spring. I think he is going to break out this year as an edge defender for the De Pere defense. After going through his sophomore film and 7 on 7 film from 2020 I think he is setting up for a big junior season. Rinard checks in at 6′ 200 lbs and looks like he is going to be a versatile LB prospect. While in coverage, I loved the awareness he played with. He showed off the ability to read the QB and feel receivers entering his zone. This led to him being able to step in front of a lot of throwing lanes and tip or break up a lot of passes in 7 on 7. When you click on the game film, even as a sophomore, you see the makings of an effective edge defender. He flies off the edge if he is left unblocked and wallops QBs and RBs in the backfield. His pursuit effort is exceptional on plays going away from him, and he has the quickness off he edge to make it very hard for OTs to get their hands on him when he gets after the QB. I can’t wait to see what he has developed into this spring. Keep an eye on this kid. Check him out as a sophomore here!
