The potential and opportunity are now theirs for the taking.
1. Treylin Payne – Judson High School (Converse, TX)
This junior finished off the season with Judson leading the team in total tackles and interceptions as a linebacker. In tackles, he totaled 100 with 51 of those being solo and having nine tackles for a loss. He averaged 12.5 tackles per game and had two sacks to boot. He also had two interceptions on the season and one forced fumble. Doing all of this as a junior, it is expected for him to exceed these stats in this upcoming season. Payne has what it takes to be one of the best linebackers in the area based off what he has already done for his team.
2. Andon Thomas – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Thomas dominated on defense last season for a Liberty Hill team that dominated almost all season. He totaled 161 tackles with 102 being solo and 24 tackles for a loss. He averaged 13.4 tackles per game on a team that went 12-1 overall and 6-0 in district play. On top of this, he had five sacks and three interceptions. His turnover game does not stop there as he also had four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble, and a blocked field goal to boot. Thomas is an all-around star who looks to continue to get even better next season.
3. Joshua Carter – Lampasas High School (Lampasas, TX)
Lampasas had a fantastic season, going 9-1 overall and 5-0 in district play, but two junior linebackers shined and one of them was Carter, who had 67 total tackles on the season. On top of having 46 solo tackles and 10 tackles for a loss, Carter led the team with five sacks for 21 yards lost. Both he, and Case Brister, are ones to watch out for next season considering they will be leading the linebackers group next season.
4. Tanner Lundy – Boerne High School (Boerne, TX)
There was a big gap between Lundy and the rest of the Greyhound defense in tackles, as Lundy had 145 total tackles with 12.5 tackles for a loss. The next in line was senior linebacker Elijah Marshall, who had 90 total tackles. Lundy also had 2.5 sacks. While Lundy does not have insane sack numbers, the potential is definitely there for a strong senior season, especially with the seniors on the team last season moving on to the next stage. Lundy now has an opportunity to have an electric performance in his push for more college offers.
5. Case Brister – Lampasas High School (Lampasas, TX)
Another part of the Lampasas linebacker duo that is sure to cause issues for offenses, Brister led the team with 177 total tackles, 134 solo tackles and 16 tackles for a loss. He averaged an astounding 17.7 tackles per game and had two blocked punts on top of his two sacks. Brister was a machine and he will look to continue being one next season as college recruiters turn their eyes to the incoming seniors. Both Brister and Carter will be a force to be reckoned with.
