Some players see themselves with plenty of playing time as a role player, and others go on to be generational talents. There are even plenty of players who aren’t the best at their position, but their talent, work ethic and ability are good enough to earn them opportunities at smaller schools, whether they have been recruited yet or not. Below, we have listed a few 2021 CB prospects in the state of Georgia who may have gone unnoticed to many, but are very much in our hearts.
Jalen Fairbanks- McEachern
Fairbanks, who we see as being more of a CB, also shows that he can be versatile and play many positions including Safety, and OLB. Regardless, Fairbanks has a unique set of movement skills that allows him to be an effective defensive player. Not only does he have a good range of movement when moving both laterally and vertically, but he also shows that he can get out of his breaks due to his solid footwork, bust, and ability to change direction very quickly. Along with this, he plays the ball very well, and does a good job of not allowing receivers to generate too much separation, allowing him to always be in a good place to make plays, whether big, or small. Due to this, we think he is a solid enough player to play a role on a smaller program’s roster.
Jalik Yancey- Campbell
Jalik Yancey, who plays for Campbell, shows to have an all around ability to play CB at an efficient rate. Not only does he have good closing speed if he has to come downhill for tackles, but he is also great at being able to turn and run, while also watching the WR’s eyes, as to be able to make a play on the ball. While he is a bit raw coming out of his breaks, his speed and sudden quickness often bails him out of such trouble. Along with this, Yancey also has the ideal size, and length for a CB, and his burst out of his steps consistently puts him in place to cause pass breakups. While he can also be a little inconsistent in how he flips his hips, we do feel that he has some fluidity in his movement skills, but he needs to work on such things more.
Jarae Foster- Woodstock
Despite the fact that Foster can play a bit high at times, he still shows that he has the movement skills to put himself in place to play the ball well when it is in the air, and that his ball skills help him to make big time plays for his defense. With this, he also shuffles well, and can be clean out of his pedals, with fast reactionary reflexes. Along with this, Foster also has a great burst, short area quickness, and the ability to explode out of his breaks, which is a very desirable ability for CB’s. Foster does a great job at flipping his hips as well, which will certainly be key to any success he has if he decides to play at the next level.
Javin Adderley- Sandy Creek
Adderley, who comes in at about 5’11, and 170 pounds, has the prototypical developmental frame that you could expect out of a small school CB. His length is key in his style of play, and helps him to make up for miss-steps, or wasted movement. With this, not only does he show that he can play with fluidity, and clean movement skills, but he also has the burst and acceleration to make key plays for his team when the ball is thrown his direction. Due to this, he causes pass break ups, and can even jar the ball loose if the receiver completes the catch moments beforehand. Expect for him to be a playmaker when he goes on to play at the next level.
