Some of these players are more on the passing side, some are more on the running side, and some have a delicate balance of both. Here is just a small sample of some better dual-threat quarterbacks in New Jersey’s 2022 recruiting class.
Ray Weed | 5-9 170 | Absegami High School
Weed completed 77-out-of-145 passes for 1,125 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also ran 87 times for 373 yards and seven touchdowns. In the three games his team lost, he threw four interceptions. In the five games his team won, he only threw two interceptions. Weed will need to cut down on the turnovers and improve his overall accuracy heading into his senior season.
Charlie Amatrula | 6-0 200 | Old Tappan
Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11167727/Charlie-Amatrula/highlights
In six games during the 2020 season, Amatrula completed 37-out-of-72 passes for 467 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions. He did most of his damage on the ground, rushing 127 times for 685 yards and six touchdowns. In those games, he threw 12-plus passes in two of them. It’s safe to assume that he’s a talented athlete playing quarterback. There’s always a place for a player like him at the next level.
Keiahn Grenald | 6-0 175 | North Plainfield
Grenald had a solid year both passing and running with the football. He completed 45-out-of-98 passes for 915 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Grenald rushed the football 70 times for 515 yards and five touchdowns. The scary part about that? Quarterback isn’t even in his best position. He’s also a talented, strong safety and that will be the position he’ll play at the next level.
Tommy Fallon | 6-2 210 | Colts Neck
Fallon completed 68-out-of-101 passes for 720 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions during his junior year. He also ran the football 57 times for 475 yards and two touchdowns. Out of all the quarterbacks in this article, he is the best passer. Fallon is on track to have a breakout junior year.
Enzo Arjona Enzo Arjona 6'0" | QB Northern Highlands | 2022 State NJ | 6-0 180 | Northern Highlands
Arjona’s threw for 960 yards and five touchdowns. He completed 60-out-of-124 passes and threw four interceptions. He added 291 yards rushing and four touchdowns off 43 carries. He’s fast and could easily run for more yardage than he did. Arjona uses his speed and quickness to extend plays and put the defense on its heels. When he rolls out to the edge and breaks containment, it puts linebackers and defensive backs in a bind. Do you come up and have a pass thrown over you or do you stay on your man and allow Arjona to make a play with his legs?
