Continue ReadingAt Prep Redzone, our goal is give D2, D3 and JUCO recruits the same coverage we give the Power Five prospects. We also strive to cover younger prospects and bring attention to future stars. In Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, I looked at 10 prospects I consider to be among the best in the state. In this installment, I’ll break down the five players I currently have ranked at the top of my personal sophomore rankings.
Tyler Jeffries Tyler Jeffries 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Alcoa | 2023 State TN , 6’4 290, OT- Alcoa
Jeffries is massive but moves incredibly well for his size. He’s a 2-way player, but his future is on the offensive line where he could be a star in college. He loves to run block and finishes violently. He’s athletic enough to get to the second level of the defense and open massive holes for his running backs. Already holding on offer from Georgia Tech, Jeffries should continue to see success on the recruiting trail.
Shamar Porter Shamar Porter 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Ensworth | 2023 State TN , 6’4 190, WR- Ensworth
Porter is 6’4, but runs like he’s 5’11 and has good route running ability. Simply put, he’s a matchup nightmare on the outside, too big from smaller corners and too athletic for safeties or longer defensive backs. Porter already holds over half a dozen Power Five offers and when he hits the camp scene this spring, he’ll probably have more come his way.
Caleb Herring Caleb Herring 6'6" | 215 lbs | LB Riverdale | 2023 State TN , 6’5 215, Ath.- Riverdale
We usually think of using the “athlete” designation for players that play both ways and are being recruited to different sides of the ball by different teams. That’s not so with Herring, who is a defender through and through. That being said, he could play any number of positions on that side of the ball due to his rare size and speed. He lines up off the ball, at defensive end and even out of the box. I personally like him as an edge rusher, but he can bring so much to a team that I’m not bound to that designation. Long story short, he’s dynamic and a future Power Five star.
Lance Williams Lance Williams 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Alcoa | 2023 State TN , 6’4 300, OT- Alcoa
Williams is the other half of Alcoa’s dominant tackle duo and already holds offers from multiple SEC schools. He’s powerful and drives defensive ends back with ease. He’s got a nasty streak and has a ton of upside. Both Williams and Jeffries have the potential to be future stars on Power Five offensive lines.
Adarius Redmond Adarius Redmond 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Powell | 2023 State TN , 6’1 180, WR- Powell
Redmond is already one of the top receivers in the country, holding offers from seven SEC schools. In actuality, he could probably go Power Five at corner as well. As a receiver, he excels at the catch point and has elite speed. After the catch, he’s tough to bring down and becomes a running back with the ball. He’s a guy we’ll continue to hear about for years to come.
