Multiple QB’s played lights out this weekend and put up big performances, including a handful from the 2023 class. Here’s a look at the top 5 QB’s of the week:=
Tom Lambert Tom Lambert 6'0" | 210 lbs | ATH La Center | 2021 State WA , 6’0″ 215lbs, La Center HS (C/O 2021)
Lambert had a crazy stat line this past weekend with 367 yards and 7 TD’s through the air, while adding another 100 yards on 6 carries to blow out Fort Vancouver 58-0. Lambert took numerous shots down the field and was very successful with the deep ball, showing a good trajectory and placement for his receivers to go get it. He had a nice jump pass for a TD on a bad snap, making something happen out of a bad situation. As a ball carrier, he read and followed blocks well and turned into an RB with the ball, not shying away from contact. Big week 1 for Lambert.
Jackson Esary Jackson Esary 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Kalama | 2022 State WA , 6’3″ 210lbs, Kalama HS (C/O 2022)
Esary happened to be our twitter Washington spotlight player of the week last week, and also had himself a big game with 210 yards passing, 154 yards rushing, and 4 total TD’s. Esary was accurate all night, and did a good job getting the ball out on out routes with velocity and timing. He made his best plays on his feet, as he scrambled out of pressure, cut back and took one 65 yards to the house. He showcased solid second level speed as a ball carrier and proved to be a legit dual threat. Definitely a 2022 kid to get on your radar.
Dempsy James, 6’0″ 180lbs, Spanaway Lake HS (C/O 2023)
James threw for 213 yards and 3 TD’s. He showcased his athleticism in a variety of ways and proved to be a young threat for Spanaway Lake. He did an excellent job extending plays when the pocket collapsed and found receivers down the field. He threw a nice vert for a TD and seemed to identify a good matchup on the outside’s while the 2-high safety look was crept up. He did a good job throwing under pressure all night. He’s a big time threat on the ground, showcasing excellent speed and short area quickness with solid change of direction and lateral agility. Very talented sophomore to follow.
Gavin Fugate, 6’3″ 195lbs, WF West HS (C/O 2023)
Fugate had a big night with 199 yards and 4 TD’s through the air. He sizes up with a big, athletic frame as a sophomore while possessing good pocket presence. He has a big arm and will only continue to develop and get better. Also a standout on the baseball team, Fugate holds big potential and is prone for a breakout sophomore season.
Jarod Oldham, 6’0″ 165lbs, Hockinson HS (C/O 2023)
In his first varsity start, Oldham put up 259 yards and 5 TD’s, making a phenomenal debut as the Hockinson starter. Unfortunately, there is no film to evaluate on Oldham yet. However, if he can keep this type of momentum rolling, he is going to make some serious noise in 2A.
