MPSSAA Restart: Bayside Conference Players to Watch
Football is back in Maryland! The snow and ice may be slowing the start of practices but, with it melting, football is officially back. Like the other conferences, the Bayside has numerous under-the-radar prospects looking to make a name for themselves. This restart offers them that opportunity. Here are four players to watch during this short restart.
Dario Belizaire, Cambridge-South Dorchester, 6’0″ 185lbs, MLB/RB, 2022
A constant power in the state of Maryland, Cambridge consistently has great players. Coming off a season where he was named a Bayside Conference All-American as a sophomore, Dario is definitely one to watch during this restart. During his sophomore season, Dario had 54 tackles and 2 interceptions while playing in the middle of the Vikings defense. He showed good instincts and a knack for finding the ball carrier as a young linebacker. This restart gives Dario a chance to show his development, physically and as a MLB, going into the Fall 2021 season. A good showing this spring should see Dario become a bigger name in the state of Maryland.
McCabe Piavis, North Caroline, 6’4″ 200lbs, DE/TE, 2022
McCabe is an intriguing player for North Caroline coming into this restart. He has great size and is a smooth athlete when on the field. As a TE, he is a natural pass catcher with soft hands. As a DE, McCabe looks the part with his size and uses his size to win his battles. He has the potential to become a big part of the offense and defense for North Caroline in the Fall 2021 season. This restart gives him the chance to show his growth from sophomore to junior year, and become the playmaker that North Caroline can rely on.
Chris Schauber. Kent County, 5’11” 180lbs, DT/OG, 2023
Anytime a freshman sees playing time on the varsity team, he is going to be one to watch in the future. Chris had 15 combined tackles and saw time on the offensive line during his first year. He flashed an ability to shed blocks with quick hands. As an OG, Chris showed he has the ability to anchor. It will be interesting to see where Chris sees the majority of snaps during the restart. While only limited views, Chris looks like a player with good potential. This restart offers him a tremendous opportunity to show growth and build momentum going into his junior season.
Eli Sellinger, Parkside, 6’1″ 185lbs, MLB, 2022
A 2019 Bayside Conference Honorable Mention, and NHSCA Wrestling All-American, Eli looks to continue growing on the football field during this spring restart. During the 2019 season, Eli flashed as the potential leader of the defense for Parkside. He shows good instincts, which allows him to play downhill. He attacks blockers in the run game and enjoys the physicality of playing the run. This restart gives Eli the chance to show his growth as a leader and player. A good showing will help build recruiting momentum going into the Fall 2021 season.
