Continue ReadingAlthough the past two cycles of offensive linemen in Mississippi have been a bit shallow, the same is not true for the 2022 class. This class of OL is deep and the names of prospects are just beginning to surface. Mississippi is loaded with huge and violent prospects this year, and many of them will be playing at the next level soon. Below are our top 5 ranked OL of 2022 based on their junior seasons.
Bryson Hurst Bryson Hurst 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Gautier | 2022 State MS | Gautier
No. 1 on the list, Bryson Hurst Bryson Hurst 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Gautier | 2022 State MS is one of the most promising offensive linemen in all of the 2022 class. After his junior summer and football season, the 6’6″ 320 lineman reeled in offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Florida State to name a few. With his massive frame and elite athleticism, the sky is the limit for Hurst. His foot quickness and ability to bend allow him to be a dominant pass protector. Hurst also has the strength to crush defenders in the run game. To top it off, he plays with a nasty edge and finishes every block through the whistle. Hurst projects as a starting Power 5 left tackle and will be one of the most highly recruited players in the state.
Carter Edwards Carter Edwards 6'6" | 275 lbs | OL Presbyterian Christian | 2022 State MS | Presbyterian Christian
Another enormous and athletic tackle, Carter Edwards Carter Edwards 6'6" | 275 lbs | OL Presbyterian Christian | 2022 State MS comes in at No. 2 in our rankings. Edwards stands at 6’6″ 265 with plenty of room to add weight and muscle mass. While currently listing offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss, Edwards’ recruitment is just beginning. His long arms and quick feet make him a coach’s developmental dream at offensive tackle. Edwards has good flexibility and can get into and out of his stance with ease. His explosion and violence are what makes him stand out on the field. Although he plays in a run heavy scheme, it is easy to see that Edwards will be a huge asset in pass protection due to his ability to move in space quickly. With improved upper body strength and more experience in pass protection, Edwards will be a starting Division 1 left or right tackle.
Klabron Pollard Klabron Pollard 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Oak Grove | 2022 State MS | Oak Grove
Capping off a state championship winning season, Klabron Pollard Klabron Pollard 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Oak Grove | 2022 State MS has begin to be one of the state’s most promising prospects. Earlier this month, Pollard’s recruitment began by collecting offers from Southern Miss, Memphis, and Liberty among other Group of Five schools. Pollard is one of the best, if not the best, run blocker in the state. His power is unmatched as he routinely punishes defenders and makes them lose their will to keep playing throughout the game. The 6’4″ lineman plays the game violent and with an edge. Pollard is also an athlete and can run in space on screens and pulls. We love Pollard’s fit at the next level in a power spread based scheme at guard.
Wil Saxton Wil Saxton 6'4" | 325 lbs | OL Benton Academy | 2022 State MS | Benton Academy
Another more recent addition to the recruiting world, Wil Saxton Wil Saxton 6'4" | 325 lbs | OL Benton Academy | 2022 State MS picked up his first and only offer so far from Florida Atlantic. The 6’4″ 310 lineman will see plenty more offers coming his way this spring as the camp circuit begins to pick up. With a verified 40 time of 5.20 seconds at 310 pounds, Saxton has tons of potential to become a prototypical center at the next level. At his high school, Saxton plays both ways due to his strength and power. Saxton is another nasty lineman in this class and dominates whoever is across from him every play. While he lacks a lot of film in pass protection, Saxton has all the tools to be developed into a starting quality center or interior lineman at the next level.
Tyshawn Graham Tyshawn Graham 6'4" | 275 lbs | OL Caledonia | 2022 State MS | Caledonia
While an unknown commodity right now, Tyshawn Graham Tyshawn Graham 6'4" | 275 lbs | OL Caledonia | 2022 State MS won’t be hidden forever. The 6’5″ 275 pound lineman has all the tools to be incredibly successful. Playing in a wing-t offense, Graham shows the ability to run in space just as fast as a receiver or running back would be able to. His feet move extremely fast and he can bend well when engaged with defenders at the point of contact. Although he is not incredibly powerful right now, Graham’s athleticism gives him a tremendous advantage to succeed. With improved strength and continued development, Graham will be playing on Saturday’s at tackle.
