This year’s group could be one of the better ones in terms of depth. There are QBs that will play at all levels of college football in 2022. Below are our top 5 ranked QBs based off their junior seasons.
Kabe Barnett Kabe Barnett 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Oak Grove | 2022 State MS | Oak Grove
Hattiesburg has always been the home of many great QBs, and Kabe Barnett Kabe Barnett 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Oak Grove | 2022 State MS is just the next one in line. After his first season as the starter at Oak Grove, Barnett finished by hoisting the state championship trophy. Barnett is one of the most slept on quarterbacks in the southeast and has yet to receive his first offer yet. Barnett has a long and lanky frame with the ability to take off. He processes the game extremely well and can find an open receiver with ease. While he throws the ball exceptionally well, Barnett’s athleticism allows him to be a prototypical modern day spread quarterback capable of doing it all. That first offer is surely coming soon for the young QB, and he will have a ton of chances to shine in a camp setting this summer.
Zach Wilcke Zach Wilcke 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Hernando | 2022 State MS | Hernando
Wilcke comes in at No. 2 on our list, but he could end up as the best pure passer in the state. Southern Miss has already offered the promising QB, but Wilcke’s recruitment is just beginning. Wilcke has the build of the typical pro style passer with plenty of room to continue adding weight. His throwing mechanics and lower body twitch remind us of former Starkville HS quarterback Luke Altmyer, who signed with Ole Miss this past cycle. Wilcke has tremendous anticipation and accuracy with his passes and is capable of making throws at all levels of the field. In addition, Wilcke has the athleticism to scramble and escape pressure to deliver balls downfield. With increased exposure, do not be surprised to see Wilcke continuing to pick up offers as the spring and summer come around.
Kenyon Clay Kenyon Clay 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB Union | 2022 State MS | Union
An over 1500 yd rusher and 1300 passer, Kenyon Clay Kenyon Clay 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB Union | 2022 State MS is a complete game wrecker at the high school level. After his explosive season, Clay has picked up offers from Southern Miss, Eastern Illinois, and Eastern Kentucky…. as a running back! Clay comes in at No. 3 on our QB list for his ability to completely take over games and dominate. Clay’s running back frame makes him dangerous in the QB run game, as he can run the option and QB power to perfection. Clay has dangerous speed and can truck through any defender in his way. As a passer, Clay throws deep balls very well off of play action. Athletes like Clay from Mississippi have had huge success at the next level, with the most recent example being former Clinton QB and now LA Rams RB Cam Akers.
Deandre Smith Deandre Smith 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Greenville Christian | 2022 State MS | Greenville Christian
After 2 seasons as the starter at Greenwood High, Deandre Smith Deandre Smith 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Greenville Christian | 2022 State MS transferred into Greenville Christian as a result of the COVID-19 restrictions in Greenwood. In his first season at GC playing 9 games, Smith finished with 2579 yds passing and 30 TDs, as well 932 yds rushing and 12 TDs. After his freshman year, Smith began to collect offers from Arkansas State, Southern Miss, and Mississippi Valley. Smith is a prototypical passer with the ability to run for additional yards. His ability to lead a team is second to none, and his arm strength is in the top of the class. Smith is a very accurate passer downfield and would excel in a vertical offense at the next level. We give Smith the best chance to rise up the ranks with a full spring at his new school this offseason.
Brylee Wall Brylee Wall 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Winston Academy | 2022 State MS | Winston Academy
Coming in at 6’4″ 205, Brylee Wall Brylee Wall 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Winston Academy | 2022 State MS is definitely one of the best built QBs in the state. The academy ball passer threw for 1800 yards and 13 TDs in his second season starting. Wall has the very clean mechanics when throwing the ball and has enough athleticism to create plays on his own. Wall’s best attribute is his eyes as he is able to look off safeties and manipulate defenders so that he can throw into open windows. In addition, he moves well in the pocket to avoid the rush and give his receivers time to get open. Look for Wall to gain some traction in a camp setting this summer.
