Following one of the best in state groups of high school WRs is no easy task, but the class of 2022 will certainly make it a competition. This year’s crop of receivers is filled with tall and explosive playmakers who will be playing on Saturday in just a little bit over a year. While it was not an easy decision at all due to the abundance of talent this year, we have ranked our top 5 WRs below.
Larry Simmons Larry Simmons 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Moss Point | 2022 State MS | Moss Point
A long, athletic, and versatile playmaker, Simmons comes in at No. 1 in our most recent WR rankings. Simmons, an Ole Miss commit as of February, is one of the most sought after playmakers in the southeast. Taking snaps at QB, RB, and WR, Simmons athleticism is off the charts. He has the speed to take a direct snap all the way outside and to the house, but also the twitch to make guys miss in space on the way there. When he lines up out wide, his arm length gives him extra ability to go over defensive backs heads to snag the ball. Simmons will be an absolute challenge to defend at the next level as he already presents the skill set of an SEC WR at a young age.
Jarnorris Hopson Jarnorris Hopson 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Horn Lake | 2022 State MS | Horn Lake
After a 2500 yd and 19 TD season at Horn Lake, Hopson exploded onto the recruiting scene. In the past two months, Hopson has collected offers from Mississippi State, Florida State, and Tennessee. Speed and physicality make up Hopson’s game. He is a deep threat expert who routinely burns defensive backs on post and go concepts. Normally, speed guys get the knock for being scared of contact or not being tough. That is not true in Hopson’s case, as he is a very disciplined blocker and isn’t scared of lowering his shoulder into a defender. We love Hopson’s fit at the next level as a dynamic slot receiver who can take the top off of a defense.
Tyrell Pollard Tyrell Pollard 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Oak Grove | 2022 State MS | Oak Grove
After transferring into Oak Grove, Tyrell Pollard Tyrell Pollard 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Oak Grove | 2022 State MS had an 1,000 yd and 16 TD breakout year. Pollard stands as a prototypical college receiver with room to add more weight. He is dynamic in the screen game, but is an even better route runner downfield. Using his speed and ability to change direction, Pollard makes an argument to be the best route runner in the state of Mississippi. Pollard also tracks the ball well downfield and catches anything near him away from his body. While he has not picked up any offers yet, it is only a matter of time before Pollard blows up in the recruiting community.
Jeremiah Dillon Jeremiah Dillon 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Parklane Academy | 2022 State MS | Parklane Academy
Jeremiah Dillon Jeremiah Dillon 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Parklane Academy | 2022 State MS could be considered the top dog WR in academy ball in the 2022 class. Dillon is another tall and lanky receiver whose best ball is certainly ahead of him. While he is raw, Dillon’s long speed will make him a highly recruited prospect. He is another WR who blows by defenders and has a ton of value as an explosive kick returner. Dillon has listed offers from Arkansas State, Central Florida, and Ole Miss among others. This list will only continue to grow, as we think Dillon will light the camp setting this summer on fire.
Davis Dalton Davis Dalton 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Madison-Ridgeland Academy | 2022 State MS | Madison-Ridgeland Academy
Checking in at No. 5 in our rankings, Davis Dalton Davis Dalton 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Madison-Ridgeland Academy | 2022 State MS stands as a tall and compact player at a young age. Dalton’s ability to track the ball downfield and high point it ranks among the top of the class. Dalton is a huge redzone threat on fade and slant routes, and rarely drops anything close to him. With Dalton’s body type, he can break tackles and be an extremely physical runner after the catch. Dalton has recently come onto the recruiting scene after picking up offers from Memphis, Southern Miss, and Liberty. Expect him to have a huge senior campaign and pick up more offers on the way.
