The peach state is producing elite talent in the secondary every year, and there are plenty in the 2023 class who are striving to be the best in the country. Multiple 2023 cornerbacks already hold Power 5 offers and have become national prospects over the last few weeks.
Here are some of the top 2023 cornerback prospects to know for the fall…
Michael Daugherty Michael Daugherty 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Grayson | 2023 State GA – Grayson
As you know by now, the Grayson Rams were one of the top high school football teams across the country last fall. They sleep-walked their way to the 7-A state championship and they did it mainly because of their outstanding defense. Daugherty, who was only a sophomore last year, was a big reason why the Rams defense was so dominant. The 6-foot-1 180-pounder is a hard-working defender who is technically sound with fluid hips. He can play on the outside, but he’ll likely play in the middle of the field as a safety at the next level. He covered some outstanding playmakers during the 2020 season and more than held his own. The early four-star made 46 tackles and intercepted one pass last season. He holds offers from Georgia, LSU, Auburn, among others. He’s one of the top defensive backs in the South and should headline another outstanding Grayson defense in 2021.
Kaylin Lee – Cedar Grove
Another Atlanta-area defensive back to know in the 2023 class is Cedar Grove standout, Kaylin Lee. At 6-foot-0 160-pounds, Lee is a true cover corner with great footwork and quickness. He changes directions well and also has a frame that helps him out against bigger wide-outs. He showed great ball skills last season with a true nose for the football. He picked off multiple passes last year and was a leader in the back end of one of the state’s top defenses. He covers a lot of ground and knows how close on the football when it’s in the air. Lee’s stock is only rising as he continues to develop his craft in the off-season. He currently holds offers from Auburn, Arkansas, FSU, among others.
Bryce Thornton Bryce Thornton 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Milton | 2023 State GA – Milton
One of the top young athletes in the entire state, Thornton is the son of former UGA cornerback Bruce Thornton, and is starting to make a name of his own on the gridiron. The athletic 5-foot-11 185-pounder had a big season as a sophomore last year, leading the team with three INTs. The Eagles had one of the top defenses in the state last season and Thornton, as a sophomore, was a big reason why. He also showed that he can help against the run as he totaled 32 tackles while breaking up 11 passes. Thornton’s athleticism also helped Milton on offense has he rushed for 261 and two touchdowns. Thornton showed impressive ball skills last year and proved he’s a threat to score any time he has the ball. He’s got speed, a good frame, and should make a big impact for Milton in 2021 on both offense, defense, and special teams.
