Statistically, all were among the top juniors in passing yards in the section and with some already signed to play college football, the others will look to be in similar commitment situations soon as they all showed off their talents at a high level.
Tyler Buchner Tyler Buchner 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Helix | 2021 State CA – 6’2, 205 lbs – Helix – Senior
Twitter: @tylerbuchner
The Notre Dame commit, who had a monster year beyond video game numbers as he threw for 4,474 yards, 53 touchdowns in 13 games at Bishop’s high school. Buchner also ran for 1,610 yards and 28 touchdowns and is ranked the #1 quarterback in the state of California by our rankings and many other sites such as 24/7 sports. Transferring to Helix high for the 2020 season was promising for the young quarterback but with the season on cancellation at the moment, the Fighting Irish will have to go off of Buchner’s outstanding junior campaign to rely on to be the future signal caller of their program. A quarterback who can run, has a big arm, is accurate, good mechanics and can throw the deep with air and velocity to reach the receiver with excellent timing. Buchner brings the total package you want in a modern day quarterback who will be showcasing his talents on Saturdays to come.
Jacob Laverdiere – 5’9, 175 lbs – Mount Miguel – Senior
Twitter: @JacobLaverdier1
The 2 year varsity starter has amassed over 6,000 passing yards at the quarterback position with 59 touchdowns through the air and 19 touchdowns on the ground. Despite being a little undersized, Laverdiere has a good arm with decent throw power, and can make good throws on the run with location in front of the receiver. In addition to his arm, Laverdiere is a runner that is not as shifty as a scout may love but he is more of a power runner and can take on several defenders as he displayed QB keeps in short yardage situations. His best trait for me is his constant habit to step up in the pocket to avoid the pass rush and deliver throws down the field, which is a quality that most young quarterbacks have issues developing. It won’t be long until Laverdiere receives more collegiate interest
Justus McComb – 6’0, 195 lbs – Granite Hills – Senior
Twitter: @justus_mccomb
Committing to Southern Minnesota State right before the new year of 2021, McComb proved himself to be a scholarship worthy athlete as a junior throwing for 2,691 yards and ran for almost 500 yards making him a talented dual threat QB. A quarterback who has good height and can make every throw, brings solid mechanics and what is even more impressive than his obvious talents is his accuracy while rolling to his left while being a right-handed thrower. Intangibly, he definitely has a command and confidence in the pocket, which every quarterback should have in my eyes if they plan to be successful.
Jakob Harris – 6’2, 215 lbs – Oceanside – Senior
Twitter: @kodak1bok
With Oceanside having a ton of talent last season, as they won the 2019 D1 CIF Title, perhaps one of their most underlooked and impactful players is their quarterback Jakob Harris. Piling over 2,400 yards and 19 touchdowns may not seem amazing but he can deliver the ball on time and has enough zip on his passes to fit them with velocity. He is a bit of a bigger body who can put himself in goal to go situations or even on QB sneaks. He excelled on throws outside the hash marks and gives his receivers a realistic chance to make a play on the football.
Aidan Sayin – 6’2, 205 lbs – Carlsbad – Senior
Twitter: @aidan_sayin
Helping his team finish ranked 19th in the state of California according to maxpreps.com, Sayin had the 5th most yards in the San Diego Section out of all junior quarterbacks a year ago. Maintaining a solid release, while delivering the football on time and in stride, Sayin was productive off under center-play action plays and carried out his play fake very well to draw the linebackers and safeties inside. His production landed him an offer to UPenn which he committed to in early September. Saying is not the scrambler QB that a lot of coaches want but he is a guy that can make the majority of throws in the pocket and on the run.
