It’s been about a month since our last 7v7 tournament and that is way too long! Fortunately, we have a great tournament coming up this weekend in our back yard of Broken Arrow. At Nienhuis Park, the Sooner7 Classic will take place as Championship 7v7 continues their tournament circuit. We’ll see teams at the 18U, 15U, 14U and 12U levels. While the younger divisions have a decent turnout, this tourney appears to be all about the big boys as over 30 teams are ready to go in the 18U division. Pool play begins on Saturday at 9AM and will go all day with the final games starting at 6:30PM. Bracket play will take place on Sunday. Prep Redzone Oklahoma will be there from start to finish providing coverage throughout. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @PrepRedzoneOK where we’ll have updates, highlights and interviews. And as always, be sure to check back here for the most in-depth coverage you’ll find. For now, we take a look at five storylines and things to follow and expect from this weekend’s Sooner7 Classic!
Introducing Oklahoma’s Most Electric Player
This will be the second tournament of the year for Sooner7 and at the first tourney, we did not get to see Oklahoma’s most electrifying player. Bixby 2022 running back

, the reigning Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year was unable to play in their first tournament in January but he’s ready to go for this weekend. Last year with Sooner7, Presley was one of their best playmakers and that opened our eyes about his potential as a receiver option that played running back.
During his junior season, in addition to running for over 1,700 yards and 25 touchdowns, Presley was Bixby’s leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Presley will now be unleashed on the 7v7 circuit and he’ll give Sooner7 an immediate boost on offense. During their first tournament, Sooner7 struggled at times offensively. Adding Presley will make them dangerous. We’re excited to see Presley once again in person and he’s certainly worth the price of admission as he’s established himself as one of, if not the most exciting player to watch in Oklahoma.
Plenty Of Star Power At WR

is the most electrifying player in this tournament but there are plenty of stars that will be on display this weekend. Staying with Sooner7, they have a good combination of talent in their 2022 and 2023 classes. One of the top performers from their last tournament was Booker T Washington 2023 wide receiver

. The Hornet standout could not be covered in one on one situations as he continued to burn DB after DB. He should be a player to watch this weekend.
Staying in the 2023 class, and the wide receiver position look at C4’s 7v7 team and check out Plainview wide receiver Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK . Plainview is a year removed from playing in the 3A championship and 2020 was somewhat of a rebuilding year. Without a doubt their star coming into this season is Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK . He’s a two-sport star for the Indians and already has D1 offers in baseball and football. He’s an outstanding wide receiver prospect and will be making plays throughout the weekend.
Southern Invasion
We’re very excited to see what Sooner7 has in store as they host one of the bigger tournaments we’ll see in Oklahoma. However, we’ll also see a group from Texoma heading up to the Tulsa area to light up the scoreboard and show out. Durant-based C4 is one of the other top 7v7 teams in the state and they’re led by Sean Cooper, owner of C4 training in Durant.
The team is a combination of southern Oklahoma standouts and north Texas standouts and they combine to make a pretty dangerous group. They’ll have two teams in the event this weekend with one 15U team and an 18U team. We’ll certainly have our eyes on the 18U team as they have some big time players both from Oklahoma and from Texas. We’ll be focused on the Oklahoma prospects to come from C4 but we’ll also be collaborating with our fellow Texas site Prep Redzone Texas and have some insight on the Texas prospects.
7v7 Emergence In Oklahoma
Sooner7 began a few years ago and we’re seeing more and more 7v7 travel teams emerge this year. Coming into this offseason, Sooner7 and C4 were the two main 7v7 travel teams across the state but we’re seeing more teams that will be competing in the tournament this weekend. Oklahoma Hype, Oklahoma Express and Young Achievers are just a few examples of teams that will be participating in the tournament this weekend.
With tournament circuits like Championship 7v7 and Pylon getting bigger and bigger in this part of the country, we’ll see more teams sprout up and travel 7v7 will become what travel basketball has been for high school athletes during the offseason. There will be people who suggest this isn’t a good thing for the football product in Oklahoma but we are not in that camp. Obviously, we like the 7v7 circuit because it provides us with football content during the offseason. But it also gives more and more players an opportunity to compete and get reps. And we’re all for that.
