The state of Georgia is always one of the nation’s best at producing high-quality talent, and the future in the peach state is as bright as ever. There are a number of players who earned varsity playing time as a freshman and are bound for breakout sophomore seasons this fall.
Debron Gatling – Milton
In North Fulton county is where you’ll find one of the top 2024 prospects in the South. The Milton WR didn’t light up the stat sheet last year, but he didn’t really need too as the Eagles have so many other weapons on offense. When he did see the ball come his way, Gatling took full advantage. He’s a good route runner for his age, had good size already, and knows how to snatch the football. He has reliable hands and he’s only going to get bigger and stronger over the next few years. Gatling totaled 333 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman last fall and really showed that he can play with the big boys at a young age. The ceiling is extremely high for this 2024 wideout who is expected to have an outstanding career in Milton over the next three seasons. The 6-foot-1 170-pounder already holds offers from Georgia, Texas A&M, Duke, Tennessee, and recently earned an offer from Minnesota.
Jordan Triplett – Frederica Academy
He may not play against the best competition, but Triplett is a star in the making down in South Georgia. He’s an excellent runner who took the region by storm last year as a freshman. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder is a big play waiting to happen with great speed and strength for his size. He knows how to make a defender miss, he’s tough to tackle for just one defender, and was a true game-changer last season. Triplett was one of the most productive backs in the entire state last year, regardless of class, rushing 202 times for 1,704 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also caught 8 passes for 113 yards and one more touchdown. Expect Triplett to continue running over defenses in 2021 and beyond with the possibility to landing some major Power 5 offers down the road.
Chase McCravy – Hillgrove
If there’s an early QB to know in the 2024 class, it’s the 6-foot-0 175-pounder from Cobb County. He’s technically sound, he has a quick release, and his arm will get stronger as he gets older and his arm continues to develop. He has a high football IQ, he’s a tough, and he’s athletic. McCravy throws accurately on the run, has great footwork and mobility, and can beat defenses with his feet. Once he takes off, he can pick up big yards in a hurry. He trains hard in the offseason and his arm is only going to get better as he throws for his 7-on-7 team this offseason. Overall, the Hillgrove product in an athletic, accurate young quarterback with potential to be one of the state’s best over the next few years.
Daniel Calhoun – Centennial
If you’re looking for the next great OL from the peach state, it has to be the massive Fulton County lineman from Centennial. The big 6-foot-5 300-pounder already has great size for his age and can dominate his opponents on pure strength. He moves and bends well for his size, and if he can continue working out and developing his body, he could have 5-star potential down the road. He was a big name to know even before his freshman year last year, and after completing year one, Calhoun saw offers come his way from both Michigan and Michigan State. Calhoun’s potential is sky-high and should be tough to beat for any defensive lineman in the state over the next few years.
