While most siblings would have a combative nature towards playing together, the opposite is true with the Barnes twins.
“We have always played together in every sport! Our dad trained us to work together and with others,” said Kyron.
Growing up together, the brothers played every single sport on the same team. Both Kyron and Kamron also play for their basketball team as well. This was to Adams County Christian’s benefit across the board, as the twins were the strong side of the offensive line in a dominant rushing attack. In addition, they anchored the defensive line and generated a ton of pass rush and run stuffing. While the two brothers may look the same and have the same build, they know each other’s strengths and weaknesses
In regards to their unique skill sets, Kamron said, “I’m more powerful and stronger at guard and my brother is more technical and faster, but we are both smart when it comes to the game that we love so much.”
“Kamron is more of powerful and explosive off the ball. He can always make a hole rather the ball coming our way or not, but I’m faster and smarter than him. I can easily tell what to do at the line of scrimmage or when someone is blitzing,” said Kyron.
Putting the two together is a deadly duo at the high school ranks though. Having the chemistry they have together is huge for an offensive line unit that rarely gives up pressure to the quarterback.
“Kamron and I have been playing for so long together that when a blitz comes, I know Kamron will be there to pick my block up. I can tell him his gap or my gap for one of us to peel and pick the guy up,” said Kyron.
The Barnes brothers are also incredibly competitive. It shows on tape as well. Rarely do you see them not finishing their blocks through the whistle. They love to dominate defenders and put them flat on their backs. When the game is on the line, it’s hard not to love running a crushing run play behind the duo.
“Our football team is more of a running team, so a lot of time we will get mad at the refs and me and my brother will tell them to run behind us! It almost always end in a touchdown!” said Kamron.
This past Thursday, the twins lives changed forever. Growing up in Mississippi, both boys grew up with dreams of playing at one of Mississippi’s finest programs such as Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alcorn State, and Southern Mississippi together. That dream started to become a reality when Southern Mississippi offered both of them Thursday morning.
“When USM offered us, we literally broke down in tears,” said Kamron.
“I’m truly thankful for the opportunity USM has given us and truly feel blessed. I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to do what I love,” said Kyron.
It’s not hard to tell why USM offered when they did. Kyron and Kamron Barnes Kamron Barnes 6'5" | 325 lbs | OL Adams County Christian | 2022 State MS have elite NFL size and developing athleticism that only comes around every so often. They are quick on their feet, change direction well, and have the strength to punish people. Both players dominate every single snap they are on the field. Their first step off the ball allows them to get to their defenders before they even have time to react. With the chemistry they have, nothing ever gets by them and they play to each others’ strengths incredibly well. Kameron and Kyron best project in a power bases scheme that allows them to use their power to clear rushing lanes for a back to get behind. It is rare to find athletes at the offensive line position like Kyron and Kamron, but it is even more rare that they come from the same family.
Southern Miss was the first school to offer the twins, but it surely won’t be the last. The brothers are set up for a huge senior season and should collect offers from most of the southeast. Coaches will absolutely love the potential both of them have and will spend their days and nights trying to sway the two to sign with their school. It’s going to be awesome to watch them both finish out their high school careers together, and then dominate on Saturday’s together.
