York County recruiting notes – Feb. 27, 2021
In this article:
Let’s take a look at four prospects who are not in our Prep Redzone SC rankings from York County that you should keep your eye as we move towards the spring. There was also a lot that happened on the recruiting trail this week that we wanted to make you aware of. Let’s jump in:
Catawba Ridge – CB Andre Hodge
Analysis: When the ball is in the air and you’re up against Hodge as a receiver, the chances that a pass will be completed are slim to none. Hodge is a lockdown corner who knows how to go find the ball and breaks on the ball quickly to prevent the completion. He can stay stride for stride with receivers as he has great speed, which is a credit to him running track. He’s got good footwork and he’s solid in run support and makes an impact on special teams. He just received an offer from the Air Force Academy on Sunday, February 21 and with good reason – he’s an excellent student with a 4.2 GPA.
Clover – OT Hagan Smith
Analysis: Smith is one of the more solid right tackles we’ve seen on tape. At 6’6, he uses his hands well and can move the defensive tackle to the ground, especially against the run. He creates big run lanes and he can also get out and make blocks in the screen game. Smith can also hold his own in pass protection as well. He plays basketball as well and is a strong student in the classroom with a 4.25 GPA.
Nation Ford – OLB/SS Jackson Sims
Analysis: Sims is an instinctive linebacker who has great play recognition and is quick to react to what he sees. He plays under control at linebacker and can come up and make tackles in space against the pass or against the run. He makes his presence felt on special teams as well as we saw him hustle to make the tackle, preventing a chance at a long return in the shortened 2020 season. He is an outstanding student with a 4.42 GPA.
Rock Hill – LS/MLB Noah Summers
2019 Hudl highlight film (MLB)
Analysis: Summers played LS during the 2020 season and he can really snap it well and is the first one to hustle down the field to prevent a return. He played middle linebacker during the 2019 season and he fills running lanes well but probably what is most impressive about him is how well he plays in space. When quarterbacks took off, he did a great job of wrapping and making a nice solid tackle. It’ll be interesting to see if he has more of a role on defense in 2021. He’s a strong student in the classroom with a 4.70 GPA.
