Continue ReadingListed below are linebackers in the Houston area who have done their jobs on the field and stood out as important pieces for their teams. Each of these individuals have not gotten some of the attention that they deserve and we wanted to get their names out there to be on watchlist going into next season. Due to an incredibly deep talent pool in the area, many players can be overlooked and this will not be the only list of linebackers in the area so expect many more names in the future.
BJ Eashmond – Westfield
Eashmond has much versatility at the linebacker position which he shows in his ability to play as an edge defender, or in being a field general in the middle of the defense. Eashmond shows incredible awareness, he allows his keys to take him to the ball where he exhibits sure handed tackling. Eashmond has good size and is physical at the point of attack, uses his hands very well in blocking situations, and has a great nose for the ball. Eashmond has the speed and quickness to blow by lineman on blitzes and shows great pursuit in chasing the ball carrier. Eashmond will have much to prove going into his senior year but he is talented enough to get some buzz around his name. He is an all around exciting player to watch and will get the job done so be sure to add his name to the watchlist.
Bryce Shaink – Tompkins
Shaink shows incredible pursuit and range in his film. He is an active linebacker who has very good speed and is rarely outran by anybody. Shaink can diagnose run plays with ease and does an exceptional job of locating the run lane and beating the ball carrier and blocker to that point. He shows great athleticism and can be shifty at times, just gliding by blockers on his way to the ball. Shaink’s ability to run sideline to sideline was a beauty to watch and as a spy he displayed incredible quickness. When an open lane presented itself, he did not hesitate to rush the opposing quarterback and make a play. Shaink currently holds one offer but more will soon be on its way. He has a great frame and size, and is a baller on the defensive side of the ball. His talent will soon be recognized and expect him have a greater impact for his team next season.
Nicholas Mitchell – Langham Creek
Mitchell plays his position extremely well as an outside linebacker. He does his job of containing and forcing plays back inside, and plays comfortably in space. Mitchell is a longer linebacker who covers much ground and is physical at the point of attack. He uses his long arms to shed blocks and wraps up with power. Mitchell is quick and decisive on the ball, especially in the open field, and puts plays to an end in a hurry. With the departure of two very good linebackers on that defensive, Mitchell will be looked upon to turn his game up a notch higher. He had a very good junior year and expect him to be even more of a playmaker for his senior year. Anticipate some programs to take notice of his talent soon and be prepared to see Mitchell’s name a lot more going into the season.
Alex Garcia – Cypress Ranch
Garcia is a player you want on your defense. Not only does he play the outside linebacker position, but he can also line up as a safety, and he can also line up at the end position and cause havoc. Garcia has incredible ball skills with great reaction time to go along with it. He can cover very well, make plays on the ball in the air, and tackle in space confidently. Garcia is another player with incredible range who can cover much ground. He shows great closing speed and the ability to shed blocks. He does everything you need him to do on the field plus more which makes him a great player. Garcia will be part of a talented defense going into his senior year and I expect him to leave it all out on the field. Put him on the watchlist coaches and watch him ball out.
Kvon Sherman – Pearland
Sherman has great size and shows great skill at his position. He is a rangy backer who has the speed to keep up with anybody and has incredible pursuit of the ball. Sherman plays the pass well, showing the ability to drop back and locate the ball and make a play on it. He keeps his head on a swivel, always aware of what is around him and has a great burst breaking on the ball. In the run game, Sherman is a force. He is physical at the point of attack, usually delivering the blow and is an excellent tackler. Sherman has an incredible feel for the game and plays loose, recognizing plays in a hurry and making quick decisions. He has all of the tools to be an excellent backer and I expect him to draw attention soon. Sherman is a huge part of the defense and will only be better heading into next season.
Gannon Tullos – Klein Oak
Tullos plays with his hair on fire and is an extremely active linebacker. He is a turnover machine who makes plays to change the momentum of the game in favor of his team. Tullos is around the ball at all times and does not give up on plays. He is a quick linebacker who plays the pass very well. Tullos has soft hands to go along with great reaction to the ball. He plays as if he is another DB but has the physicality of a linebacker. Tullos plays at a speed that allows him to seem unblockable. He sheds blocks in a flash and by the time the lineman looks back, Tullos is already celebrating his tackle for loss. Tullos shows a great motor with great pursuit and secure tackling. So far, Tullos holds five offers with more to come. He is a talented linebacker with much more to show for his senior year, so remember his name.
Hunter Warren Hunter Warren 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Cy-Fair | 2022 State TX – Cy- Fair
This is not my first time writing about Warren and it will not be my last. Warren’s film is one you can watch over and over again. He plays at one speed and if you blink you will miss him. Warren was the districts defensive MVP and led in tackles for loss as well. He is a tackling machine who shoots gaps like no other and is in the backfield before anyone knows what has happened. Warren has excellent lateral speed, can run with anybody, and plays a physical style of football. Warren, like the other linebackers listed, has an excellent motor and is in on just about every tackle. He plays comfortably in space and does not allow himself to be blocked in the open field. When asked to blitz, Warren is a =n offensive nightmare. He makes himself skinny when shooting the gap, making it difficult for lineman to touch him, and shows off his relentless pursuit when chasing players in the backfield. Warren’s instincts are insane and his ability to end plays before they even get started is a beauty to watch. Warren currently holds one offer, but a player of his caliber will not be hidden for much longer. Warren’s name will be one at the top of many lists in the area and programs will soon start to take notice.
Nicholas Norman – Westside
Norman led the district in tackling for a reason. He plays with an incredible motor and is another linebacker who is quick on his reads. He sees the ball and he attacks with little wasted movements. Norman has great closing speed and tackles with force. He plays sideline to sideline and does not give up on plays, continuously chasing the ball. On screens and swing routes, Norman is the first one to meet the ball carrier. In the run game he is physical. He takes on blocks with great strength and always has an eye on the ball carrier. His pace of play will be something that draws attention and with a productive offseason, Norman will have a chance to shine for his senior year. Expect Norman to go all out next season and make people know his name and talents.
