Ty Walton | East Union
A quick and twitchy playmaker, Ty Walton recently transferred into East Union after spending time at Olive Branch and Itawamba Ag. East Union just got a heck of a competitor and quarterback. As a passer, Walton has very good mechanics. He has an active lower base and is capable of throwing a good ball off platform. In the pocket, he maneuvers around well and has the legs to make things happen if things go south. Walton thrives off of play action and executes the RPO extremely well too. He has a quick release that allows him to get the ball out of his hands before the defense knows what is going on. In the run game, Walton has speed to make defenders pay in the open field. He is more of a finesse runner who can make people miss and pick up yards. This is the type of guy that will thrive in modern day spread RPO based systems. Expect him to rise after his senior year of tape.
Aaron Steele Aaron Steele 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Kemper County | 2022 State MS | Kemper County
A first year QB, Aaron Steele Aaron Steele 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Kemper County | 2022 State MS brought Kemper County to a 8-3 record his first year. He threw for nearly 1600 yards and 17 TDs while also having 483 yards and 12 TDs on the ground. As a guy with such little experience, it was surprising to see how natural Steele looked in the pocket. He is calm and has good feet to avoid the rush. Steele steps up well and can deliver some really nice balls downfield. In addition, he reads the field well and can find his open man with ease. As a runner, Steele is fast and explosive in the open field. He can make people miss in space or just truck right over them. Unlike most quarterbacks, Steele has good contact balance and can shed arm tackles as well. This is a guy with a ton of upside as a quarterback due to only playing 1 season so far. If he isn’t recruited as a QB, his athleticism will allow him to play the other skill positions on offense. Look for him to rise by the end of his senior season.
Tyler Fortenberry | Brookhaven Academy
Gamer. That is the word word I would use to describe Tyler Fortenberry. The 6’4″ 190 QB could be one of the most fun players to watch in the state. Last year, the exciting playmaker threw 2600 yards and 28 TDs, while also putting in some serious yardage on the ground. This is the type of guy that can do it all. In the run game, Fortenberry is a threat with his legs. He can take off for huge gains and has great straight line speed. With his frame, he isn’t afraid of contact and will run through defenders if he needs to. In the pocket, he can evade the rush and keep his eyes downfield to make huge plays in the pass game. Fortenberry has a big time arm and is capable of making impressive throws downfield. He throws with good zip and anticipation, threading the ball into some really tight windows. There is no fear to his game either. Fortenberry plays with swagger and has a gunslinger mentality. How this guy has nothing going on yet is beyond me. Expect him to get his recruitment going this summer at camps. Some program is going to get an exceptional playmaker with guts.
