1. Evrin Contreras (DL) – Seguin High School (Seguin, TX)
As a freshman, Contreras has done so much already for Seguin after his first season with the Matadors. He had 41 total tackles, with 34 being solo and averaged 4.6 tackles per game. he also had one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. His best game came against Johnson on Nov. 20, when he had 10 total tackles, all being solo tackles, and two tackles for a loss while also recovering a fumble. He was able to get his one sack against Veterans Memorial and had his forced fumble against Hendrickson. The stats explain it themselves but Contreras has shown his potential already to be an elite defensive lineman, but there are plenty of years and experience ahead for the young lineman to continue to grow.
2. Jake Plesko (LB) – Geneva High School (Boerne, TX)
Plesko was amongst the leaders on the defense for the younger players. He had 28 total tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery, according to MaxPreps. As a whole, Geneva has a large amount of young talent and Plesko showcased his abilities last season by being amongst the top of that group. If this trend continues, Plesko could be one of the top leaders on the team by the time he becomes a senior.
3. Monte Swaner (DL) – Mart High School (Mart, TX)
Much like Plesko, Swaner is in the same boat for Mart. He also had 28 total tackles, five tackles for a loss, one sack and two fumble recoveries. Considering how elite Mart is as a team, Swaner can only continue to go up from here and with other talents like freshman linebacker Dominic Medlock also providing support for the younger talent on the defense, it is looking like Mart will continue its success and dominance in the 2A-2 Region III.
4. Tabor Tyson (DB) – Brentwood Christian High School (Austin, TX)
While schools such as Brentwood Christian do not get much recognition being a TAPPS Division II school, it is still worth noting potential talent when you see it, and that is Tyson. With 21 total tackles, according to MaxPreps, Tyson is amongst the best in the young talent on the team and he also helps out on special teams as one of the kickoff returners. Tyson has a lot of potential so keep an eye out for him.
