While it will be a while before these freshmen are getting into college recruitment and thinking about the future, these players are certainly still worth a watch for not just this year, but the years to come.
1. Noah Long (RB) – Liberty Hill High School (Liberty Hill, TX)
Although Long turned some heads with his stats alone as a freshman, it is the fact that Liberty Hill has become known for creating great rushing talent as both seniors Blake Simpson and Trey Seward were among the best running backs in the area. While Long will have to compete for reps with the incoming seniors and juniors, he already has shown his potential talent in his freshman year. He rushed for 421 yards and scored six touchdowns with his best game being against Boerne-Champion when he rushed for 135 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 100 yards in just four carries against Rouse while also scoring a touchdown. It is tough to tell what his sophomore season will look like, but keep an eye out for him.
2. Dominic Medlock (RB) – Mart High School (Mart, TX)
Medlock is a name that has appeared before on Prep Redzone and for good reason, as he plays for an elite team in the 2A class. This is a team, much like Liberty Hill, which has produced running back talent that can both get the yardage and score often. Medlock rushed for 227 yards and scored three touchdowns last season, and considering the seniors and juniors get up to 1,000 yards rushing and around 20 touchdowns in a season, there will be much growth for Medlock in the years to come.
3. KP Fitzgerald (WR) – Geneva High School (Boerne, TX)
There is a lot of potential for Fitzgerald, especially as he continues to grow into the next season. Geneva had an excellent receiver talent in senior Jackson Young, and while there is plenty of time for Fitzgerald to reach that same status, he has already shown his capabilities, leading most of the other freshmen and sophomores in receiving yards. He had a total of 20 receptions for 141 yards and one touchdown. He is definitely one to keep an eye on throughout the next couple of years.
4. Carson Smith (RB) – Blanco High School (Blanco, TX)
Same deal for Smith, as the Blanco running game is full of depth, there will be plenty of opportunities for Smith to continue to gain reps in games. After all, he had 51 carries his freshman year for a total of 399 yards and four touchdowns. Blanco leans heavily on the run game, which bodes well for Smith to continue to grow and potentially explode for the Panthers. A challenge for him will be sharing the reps with the number of running backs, but he can set himself apart from the others with time and hard work. He has the potential to be a great running back in the Central Texas area.
