With over 200 players from as far away as Kentucky and Wisconsin, the competition was fierce and tons of players in the classes of 2022, 23, 24 and even 2025s got to show their skills. Here are a few Missouri players who stood out:
DL Cooper Roy Cooper Roy 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB Glendale | 2022 State MO , Glendale, 2022
The more I see Roy in person, the more I like him as a player. His film from 2020 was very good but he looks stronger, faster and more twitchy in drill work and testing. After the season, Roy was ranked No. 57 overall in the class of 2022. That ranking will bite the dust in the preseason rankings if Roy keeps showing out like he did at the combine. At 6’3″, 223 the Glendale junior ran a 4.69 40, posted a blazing 4.13 short shuttle and tossed the Powerball 41’7″. Those numbers alone would be some of the best in the country at his position. But his 9’10 broad jump and 35 inch vertical were even more impressive. Roy has been picking up offers left and right. With a continued strong offseason, he will have plenty more.
DL Frank Wilson Frank Wilson 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL East St Louis | 2022 IL , Clayton, 2022
Another player who is using this offseason to show off his work ethic, Wilson was powerful and nasty (in a good way) during 1 v 1 drills and tossing the Powerball. Wilson plays with leverage, has a solid get off and uses a good lower body power to move the blocker. You can see his lower body power in his 41’7″ PB toss. Wilson is a watchlist player at No. 19 in the defensive line group heading into the offseason but now having watched him live, Wilson is on his way to being ranked very soon.
DL Trevor Buhr Trevor Buhr 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL Washington | 2023 State MO , Washington, 2023
The sophomore put on a very steady and productive combine. The 4th ranked DL in his class and No. 25 overall, Buhr looked the part of a dominant player just coming into his own. Standing at 6’4″, 265 lbs., the Washington native ran a 5.05 40, tossed the Powerball 39 feet and ran a legit 4.47 short shuttle. That’s moving for a man his size. Buhr was flexible in drill work and was very coachable. Still a pup in terms of growth, look for Buhr to ascend in the rankings and college coaches’ eyes as he continues to work.
DL Jahkai Lang Jahkai Lang 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Troy Buchanan | 2023 State MO , Troy Buchanan, 2023
Another sophomore who looked like he had been working, Lang had a very good day, even after talking playful trash to me about his ranking. Ranked as the 6th DL in his class and No. 38 overall, I told the sophomore to use his ranking as fuel to work every day and he agreed. His ability to focus and battle to improve stood out in drill work, 1 v 1s, and testing. Checking in at 6’3″, 235 lbs., the Troy DE ran a solid 5.05 40, broad jumped 9’2, and hit an explosive 32.5-inch vert. Lang is a player I expect to grow in terms of skills, size, and strength. He will be a force for Troy for the next two seasons.
One to watch:
WR Bruce Wilbert, Joplin, 2022
Wilbert only played in four games as a junior due to being a butt-kicker and getting injured making a play. But the speedy wideout showed good hands, precise route running and a competitive fire that breeds winning. His 4.38 short shuttle fits into exactly the type of short-area quickness the slot player should have. Standing at 6’1″, with added strength and weight, Wilbert is inline for a breakout year in 2021.
