That type of quarterback is going to pass the majority of the time before thinking of running. Dual-threat quarterbacks can do damage both passing and running with the football. Today, Prep Redzone takes a look at five Class of 2022 dual-threat quarterbacks to watch this upcoming season. These athletes have shown their ability to positively affect a football game with both the passing and running abilities on the football field.
Kellan Stahl Kellan Stahl 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Richland | 2022 State PA Ι 5-11 Ι 185 Ι Richland HS
Prep Redzone PA Rankings: No. 12 Quarterback, No. 127 overall prospect
During the 2020 season, Stahl completed 112-out-of-202 passes for 1,493 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also ran 134 times for 657 yards and 14 touchdowns. He gets a lot of air under the football on his deep passes. His receivers catch the football in stride. He doesn’t put a lot of zip on his short and deep out passes. He isn’t the fastest or quickest, but he has just enough of both to make plays with his legs. With some improvement in his accuracy, Stahl can set himself up to have an even better senior season.
Beau Pribula Beau Pribula 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Central York | 2022 State PA Ι 6-2 Ι 200 Ι Central York HS
Prep Redzone PA Rankings: No. 1 quarterback, No. 11 overall prospect
Penn State has a stud in Pribula. He’s not only one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state, but he’s one of the best on the East Coast. He makes brilliant decisions with the football, whether it’s passing or throwing the football. There’s so much to like about Pribula as a football player. I’m impressed with how quickly he sets up and in the pocket and scans the field for an open man. His ability to both sell the play-action and look off safeties enables him to hit his wide receivers deep for big gains. Pribula completed 158-out-of-234 passes for 2,156 yards, 34 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 519 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 62 carries.
Justin Holmess Justin Holmess 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Northwestern Lehigh | 2022 PA Ι 6-3 Ι 205 Ι Northwestern Lehigh HS
Prep Redzone PA Rankings: No. 5 quarterback, No. 93 overall prospect
Holmes had a decent season throwing the football and a great season running the football. Deep balls rely on timing and air over arm strength. Holmes is definitely confident throwing in-between the hashes. He is dangerous once he decides to run the football. His combination of speed, size, and power makes him very hard to tackle. His ability to relocate his launch point or take off to move the sticks. Holmes will have to work on his accuracy. He completed 61 out of his 136 pass attempts for 1,326 yards, 16 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Holmes put in work running the football too. He ran the football 140 times for 1,070 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
Noah Lent Noah Lent 5'11" | 155 lbs | QB Smethport | 2022 State PA Ι 6-0 Ι 155 Ι Smethport HS
Prep Redzone PA Rankings: No. 24 quarterback, No. 230 overall prospect
As his stats would suggest, he does more damage when he runs with the football. He carried the football 99 times for 813 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Lent isn’t asked to pass the football that much. He completed 38-out-of-89 passes for 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Mercury Swaim Mercury Swaim 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Bedford | 2022 State PA Ι 6-0 Ι 190 Ι Bedford HS
Prep Redzone PA Rankings: No. 17 quarterback, No. 161 overall prospect
He’s an adequate passer and a dangerous runner. It’s safe to say that he’s an athlete that plays quarterback and it’s nothing wrong with that. Swaim completed 97-out-of-168 passes for 1,578 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He added another 1,141 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground on 127 carries for Bedford last season.
