Here are five reception leaders from small schools looking for productive junior seasons to spark their college recruitment.
Jo Ord, 5’9”, 150, Anthony-Harper-Chaparral – Ord made 19 catches during a COVID shortened 2020 season. He caught two touchdowns for the Roadrunners in his sophomore season. His best game was four catch game for 90 yards against Sterling. He is quick, sure-handed, and worth a look for JUCO scouts.
David Signs David Signs 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Wellsville | 2023 State KS , 5’11”, 180, Wellsville – Signs is a solid young player who finished with 16 catches in his sophomore season. His best game of the season came against Anderson County as he caught four balls for 107 yards and a touchdown. The talented Wellsville Eagle found the end zone three times at the end of a reception.
Will Schmidt Will Schmidt 6'1" | 170 lbs | ATH Oakley | 2023 State KS , 6’1”, 165, Oakley – Schmidt’s primary position with the Oakley Plainsmen will still have to playout, but the bottom line with him is he plays football with passion. He could play quarterback, running back, or receiver. He finished his sophomore season with 15 receptions. Schmidt’s longest reception of the year went for 40 yards. His longest pass went for 57 yards.
Eli Oliver, 5’10”, 135, Wabaunsee – Oliver appears to be the future signal-caller for the Wabaunsee Chargers, but he made 21 receptions to rank among sophomore leaders. He is a fast and intelligent football player. Oliver gained 269 yards in the passing game and scored three receiving touchdowns.
Dakota Slocum, 6’2”, 165, Holcomb – Slocum was a secondary performer as a sophomore but will look to be an offensive leader for the Holcomb Cubs in 2021. He made 13 receptions, with two for touchdowns in 2020. He carried the ball 10 times and scored once on the ground. He will be an interesting athlete to watch for two more high school seasons.
