It was a great way for this loaded Central team to set the tone for spring football in St. Louis County. The Hawks’ defense came out on fire in the first half, keeping the Stars at a negative run game and with a pic 6 by Junior Defensive lineman Calvin Geans. They also had a forced fumble caused by Terrell Whiting and recovered by Junior defensive back, DaMaurian Hood.
The defensive takeover by the Hawks continued with another interception by Junior defensive back Kourtland Harris. Central’s defense racked up four total turnovers in the game.
On the offensive side, Junior receiver, Armani Turner, met the end zone twice against the Stars. The first time was a jet sweep in the red zone, and the second time was a deep ball.
The quarterback dynamic duo, led by Junior Bryson Brown and Sophomore Larry Johnson, also had a field day against the Stars. Brown threw for two touchdowns, one to Turner and the other to Junior wideout ClayShaun Davis. Johnson contributed with a massive run on the quarterback keep that led to a touchdown.
The rushing attack from Lionel Banks was also benefited to the Hawks’ huge victory as well. Junior safety, Matthew Logan, also had a great game, flying to the ball and also doing damage on the offensive side. He also added to the league with a touchdown from a screen pass at the goal line.
For the Stars, Vintez Moss made some great plays at corner. He had an interception, that gave Mccluer North some momentum.
Taiwan Allen and Clifford Chandler also had some great plays. Although it was a struggle getting the ball upfield, they never backed down and kept running. Allen also broke out a couple great runs in the second half.
Earl Gray is also a sleeper receiver that showed out. Gray had a great catch down the sideline, which helped McCluer North move the ball down the field.
This was a great way to start off the spring football season in St. Louis.
