Both squads have very good returning players on both sides of the ball and at-least one elite OL and DL on each team with a bunch of very productive and explosive skill position players as well. Here, we will take a look into some of the top players from both teams that will square off in a couple weeks to open the California high school football season.
Frank Payne-Las Lomas HS
Transferring to Las Lomas last year, Payne will burst onto the scene as one of the top athletes in the region. The 2022 RB/DB is a true home run threat that has elite top end speed and lateral agility in traffic while showing good contact balance and pad level. Also able to catch the ball out of the backfield and return punts/kicks, Payne is an explosive playmaker that will make an immediate impact in week 1 of the season.
Mason Reese-Las Lomas HS
Coming off a dominating Junior season from his interior OL/DL position, Reese is a very strong player with a low center of gravity and powerful punch with the ability to finish blocks and play with good toughness and physicality. Athletic for his size, he can two-gap, pull in space and sustain blocks at the second level while taking good angles to defenders in space. Also good against the run, he wins with violent hands/placement and getting underneath blockers at the POA.
Brian Thorpe-Las Lomas HS
Thorpe is a big bodied outside receiver that runs very well for his size and can make all the tough catches while having deceptive open field speed. Possessing very strong hands and winning with size and range, Thorpe is poised to have another successful season and should also draw college interest.
Jabre Bevineau-Las Lomas HS
A longer Safety coming off a good Sophomore season, Bevineau shows plus range and open field speed while breaking well to ball carriers and has natural ball skills/high point ability. A long strider who is a good overall athlete, Bevineau is an intriguing prospect that should see FCS and D-II interest come his way in the coming months.
Jackson Brown-San Ramon Valley HS
One of the top offensive tackles in the ’22 class in the entire state, Brown is an exceptional athlete that has a big frame/length that will only continue to grow and add muscle as he progresses through high school. On tape, he is a physical blocker in space that can climb to the second level and shows good lateral movement ability and good feet in space while patient in pass pro and finishing blocks with good physicality and toughness. Brown will have 10+ FBS offers by the time it’s all said and done.
JP Murphy JP Murphy 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE San Ramon Valley | 2021 State CA -San Ramon Valley HS
Already signed with SDSU, Murphy is a dominant player on both sides of the ball but will be playing tight end at the next level. On tape, Murphy moves very well for his size, has a huge catch radius and can come down with balls in traffic and does a good job at boxing out defenders and using his body to win 50/50 balls. Tough and physical and able to break arm and ankle tackles, he should be First Team All League on both sides of the ball and up for All State Honors as well.
Jack Quigley-San Ramon Valley HS
Quigley is one of the most under-recruited prospects in all of Norcal and should be close to pulling in his second offer. Currently holding one offer from William and Mary, Quigley is a high IQ player with a quick release and shows strong pocket mobility and can throw on the run/from awkward body angles while keeping good zip on his ball and his eyes downfield. Accurate on 30+ yard throws, he throws his receivers open with good velocity and is not afraid to check down after going through his progressions. He has FBS caliber abilities and should see his recruiting continue to rise in the coming months.
Connor Chester-San Ramon Valley HS
Signed with University of San Diego, Chester has a good frame and projects as an interior lineman at the next level. A physical phone-booth blocker, Chester has a strong initial punch and good leg drive through out his blocks while finishing with good physicality. Athletic enough to block second level defenders and pull, he is a very sound player that understands blocking angles and picking up pressure in pass pro.
Kyle Ecker-San Ramon Valley HS
Heading to University of San Diego with his teammate, Ecker is another athletic tackle/guard that should make an immediate impact at the next level. Ecker is a downhill run blocker that has good first step explosion and initial punch while showing natural bend and is quick out of his stance. Able to sustain blocks and get to the second level in a hurry, Ecker will be one of the most dominant offensive lineman in Norcal this Spring.
Tyler Hoffman-San Ramon Valley HS
A quick slot receiver that has added good size this off-season, Hoffman has had a successful off-season and is poised to break out this season. Showing good initial burst and quick in and out of his breaks while sinking his hips and stemming his routes well, Hoffman has strong hands and can make defenders miss in open space while showing good body control when going up for 50/50 balls.
Matt Shapiro-San Ramon Valley HS
Shapiro is another breakout player candidate from the East Bay power and is a good athlete from the tackle position that moves very well for his size and shows good knee bend out of his stance while very strong in pass pro against both power and speed pass rushers. A very balanced prospect, he should see both FBS and FCS interest coming his way this Spring and Summer.
