Linebackers are expected to do a lot more than just stand in the box and tackle. The outside players are expected to cover receivers while the inside guys are expected to track down athletic quarterbacks. Linebackers have become a crucial part of the team as defenses continue to improve. Safeties in the box have taken some pressure off of the inside linebackers, allowing them to be a bit more aggressive as pass rushers. It’s an interesting position that will continue to evolve in the coming years.

Here are some of the top linebackers in the state of Michigan for the 2021 MHSAA season:

Joshua Burnham Joshua Burnham 6'3" | LB Traverse City Central | 2022 State MI , LB, Traverse City Central

The Traverse City Central star is making his big college announcement on March 17th. At 6-4, 215 pounds, Burnham presents bigger than conventional linebacker size and adds solid instincts. Burnham has the range to track down ball carriers on the outside and can also get it done in pass coverage. He has the size and speed to move up front or stay at linebacker in the future.
