Mississippi Well Represented in ATL Combines
In this article:
Down in Atlanta this weekend, nationally known football camps kicked off and many Mississippi players were in attendance. At both the Under Armour and National Preps events, PrepRedzone had eyes on some of the best talents at the events. We will continue to get a look at some of these up-and-comers with events in New Orleans and Jackson in the near future. Here were a few guys who stood out this past weekend.
Dicenzo Miller Jr. | 2022 RB | Kemper County
Not a surprise, but Kemper County RB Dicenzo Miller Jr. was at both events on Saturday and Sunday. Miller was physically impressive in person and looked to have added some healthy muscle to his frame. He ran well in a testing setting and showed his quick change of direction off. Biggest surprise was Miller’s dominance in the 1v1 section of the camp. His receiving ability has greatly improved out of the backfield, and he had smooth hands on each catch. There wasn’t a rep he lost.
Jeremy Jackson Jeremy Jackson 5'11" | 290 lbs | DL Pearl | 2022 State MS | 2022 DL | Pearl
At the conclusion of the National Preps showcase, Jackson was highlighted as one of the top 10 defensive linemen in attendance. Jackson looked great throughout the event. While he isn’t the tallest and longest, he sure was FAST. Jackson was one of the twitchier kids at the entire camp that day and looked exceptional throughout the combine drills. He ran well in space and could change direction better than most of the other kids there. Won’t be surprised when coaches watch his camp data throughout the next few weeks and start sending over the offers.
Mike Williams Mike Williams 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Natchez | 2023 State MS | 2023 WR | Natchez
For a younger guy at a UA event, Williams did extremely well. While he wasn’t the most physically imposing WR there, he had a great day in 1v1s. Williams had quick feet and a fantastic release at the line of scrimmage. His speed was also very impressive and he was able to use it to burn corners in press and off man. Williams caught the ball well away from his chest and ran the route tree at a high level. Really surprised he doesn’t have anything going on yet. Expect Williams to blow up relatively soon.
Jamar Grace Jamar Grace 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR Kemper County | 2022 State MS | 2022 WR | Kemper County
Jamar Grace Jamar Grace 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR Kemper County | 2022 State MS was another dominate MS WR this weekend. At the National Preps event, it was hard to find a better receiver. Grace had long strides and demonstrated a great ability to go up and get the football. His wiry frame gives colleges a lot of room to continue to develop him physically. Grace caught the ball well and had some nice moves in the open field. Most impressively he showed good leaping ability to get up and over defenders. He currently lists no offers.
Xavier Davis Xavier Davis 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Hartfield Academy | 2022 State MS | 2022 ATH | Hartfield Academy
Davis is a bit of a sleeper that can lay a variety of roles at the next level. At the UA event, his speed was most evident. Davis is a fast player in the open field with good wiggle. If he gets the ball, there’s a high chance for a big play or touchdown. With his speed, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him play as a rangy free safety at the next level. Like this guy’s upside. Expect Davis to be a riser in the next rankings update.
Deandre Smith Deandre Smith 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Greenville Christian | 2022 State MS | 2022 QB | Greenville Christian
I’m really not sure how Deandre Smith Deandre Smith 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Greenville Christian | 2022 State MS doesn’t have more going on in his recruiting. Smith was one of the better passers at the events and was physically impressive as well. He stood tall and has added a lot of muscle over the past few months. Just like on film, Smith has an absolute cannon and can make throws to all levels of the field accurately. Love this guy’s upside as a passer and runner. Would thrive in any kind of offense. Will be a big riser.
Bryson Hurst Bryson Hurst 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Gautier | 2022 State MS | 2022 OL | Gautier
Bryson Hurst Bryson Hurst 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Gautier | 2022 State MS looked like a college offensive lineman already. He was easily one of the biggest kids there and had the athleticism to go along with it. Hurst was quick on his feet and moved well in space. He’ll be one of the highest recruited offensive linemen in a while from MS. Will have every offer imaginable.
Wil Saxton Wil Saxton 6'4" | 325 lbs | OL Benton Academy | 2022 State MS | 2022 OL | Benton Academy
Another dominate offensive lineman representing Mississippi. Saxton absolutely crushed it in 1v1s. He even took home the OL MVP award from the UA event. Saxton showed good ability to snap the ball, but what really flashed was his athleticism and power. This is a mean kid that plays with an attitude. Super fun player to watch. FAU is getting an absolute steal right now. Power 5 offers will most likely come in soon for Saxton.
