With their junior year looming in the near future, the following prospects deserve to be getting glances in recruiting circles across the Southeast as spring ball and summer workouts near.
Jamarious Brown Jamarious Brown 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Moss Point | 2023 State MS | Moss Point
At this time I would honestly not be surprised to see Brown end up being the top in-state recruit for the class of 2023. The defensive end prospect is already drawing Power 5 level interest and offers, including Mississippi State and Ole Miss. With two high school seasons still ahead of him, Brown simply checks the boxes that you want in an elite defensive end recruit. Prototypical edge rush length is present, with elite burst off the ball. Brown brings athleticism to the position with little to no stiffness in his frame whatsoever. There is a fire to the game of the Moss Point native in which you crave in trench prospects. Brown plays a physical brand of football and simply has a mix of athleticism and length that is tough to find. This will be as fun a prospect to watch for the next two years as the state offers.
Tabias Hinton Tabias Hinton 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Hattiesburg | 2023 State MS | Hattiesburg
Hinton is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign which saw him tear up the stat sheet with 77 tackles and 18.5 sacks. Currently splitting time between DE and OLB, I would expect to see his frame continue to fill out making him into a DE at the next level. Hinton showcases an edge rush mentality with good athleticism, although there is a tad bit of technical stiffness when putting a hand in the dirt. Disruptive demeanor with good length and hands in battles in the trenches. Will demand double teams every play as junior and senior. No doubt has Power 5 level talent and is already drawing some interest from that level.
Kelten Mickell Kelten Mickell 6'2" | 275 lbs | DL Petal | 2023 State MS | Petal
Mickell has the makings of becoming an absolute nightmare in the middle of the defensive front. The rising junior carries a defensive tackle projection due to the impressive build/size he already has. Mickell does a nice job of playing thru blocks in route to the football. Potential to be a dynamite run stopper as he continues to add to his frame. Mickell has a motor that is out of this world, as he refines himself technically and continues to mature physically he will grow into a matchup nightmare across the front. Doesn’t “wow” with athleticism but moves well nonetheless. Prospect that is athletic enough to get to the QB frequently and big enough to clog up running lanes. Mickell has the makings of being the type of guy that sees his recruitment blow up out of nowhere during his junior campaign.
