The amount of talent on hand was immense. Players were put through agility drills by position, then they worked on position specific drills, and they finished with 1 on 1’s. The energy was palpable, and it all started with the coaches. I said it on Twitter on the day of the showcase, but I’ll say it again. Southwest Ohio has some of the finest coaches around, and the group brought the energy at this showcase. In part one of this two part series I’ll be highlighting the top Quarterbacks and Running backs.
Quarterbacks
Te’Sean Smoot Te’Sean Smoot 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Springfield | 2022 State OH 6’1 180 (C/O 2022) Springfield HS- Smoot had the homefield advantage and even got to throw to his own receivers some of the time, but that being said his still delivered. Smoot is a gamer. He’s the kid that’s going to fight for every rep. He’s eager to prove himself with every throw. When it comes to tools Smoot has a smooth throwing motion, great ball placement, and plenty of arm. Te’Sean is one that could really benefit from getting on campus and getting to meet with the D1 P5 coaching staffs that have pursued him, in person. Smoot led the Springfield Wildcats to the Ohio Division final four before losing in a close one to the eventual state champion Saint Xavier.
Noah Geselbracht 6’6 210 (C/O 2022) Moeller HS- Gesselbracht stands every bit of 6’6 with an athletic build to back it up. He displays good footwork and a quick release. He stands tall in the pocket and delivers the ball with confidence. Projecting Noah out I look at him as an upper echelon D2 or D1 mid major type of quarterback. Geselbracht is another who will largely benefit from summer camps and campus visits. He’s a kid who looks ready to take a step to another level of play. Playing at Moeller, he’ll get the chance to prove himself by competing against some of the top talent in the state of Ohio.
Cameron Swiger 6’0 190 (C/O 2023) Anthony Wayne HS- Just looking at Swiger you wouldn’t guess that you’d have a player who’s just finishing up his sophomore year of high school. He’s a well put together young man. Cameron is one who will be able to win from the pocket or on the move. Though one of the younger QB’s in the group he never looked out of place or overmatched. He throws the ball with accuracy, but as he continues to grow and develop I really expect him to be able to open it up when it comes to arm strength. Cameron is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.
Lanny Ash 6’3 210 (C/O 2023) Hamilton HS- Ash is a physically imposing QB when it comes to a sophomore in high school. What struck me most about him is his easy arm strength. The ball just pops off of his hand. Arm strength is an inherent ability and Ash has it in spades. As he continues to develop and mature physically Lanny is going to be a kid that can make every throw. His velocity and arm strength will be plus plus. Lanny is a kid that I could see blowing up into a big P5 recruit. He’s also an extremely smart and well rounded young man.
Running backs
Christian Davis Christian Davis 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Miamisburg | 2023 State OH 6’0 190 (C/O 2023) Miamisburg HS- Davis is a physically put together back who runs with great balance. He’s a very strong one cut runner. I like him as a between the tackles runner at the college level that can pop one every now and then at the next level, He’s a back that you’ll never have to worry about losing yards and he’s going to extend runs with his physicality. He has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield as well. Davis recently picked up his first D1 offer from the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Ray Greene 5’9 165 (C/O 2022) Wayne HS- Greene is a dynamo in the backfield. He’s an explosive athlete that posses the make you miss quality you look for at the D1 level. Greene has the versatility to line up in the backfield but also to motion out to receiver that can make for a major mismatch in the passing game. Any time he gets the ball he has the ability to take it all of the way. This offseason and in his senior season I look for Ray to jump out onto the D1 recruiting scene.
Wide Receiver
Anthony Brown Anthony Brown 5'10" | 170 lbs | WR Springfield | 2023 State OH 5’10 170 (C/O 2023) Springfield HS- Anthony is a big time P5 receiver in the making who has offers from sever P5 schools as a Sophomore. Brown can pretty much do it all. He can take the top off, but he can also win in small space. He’s a cover nightmare at the high school level.
Terrell McFarlin 6’0 180 (C/O 2022) Saint Xavier- McFarlin projects to an outside receiver at the college level. He’s strong at the point of attack to open up his release, and he has great shake in and out of his breaks in his routes. McFarlin has had to sit his turn at Saint Xavier behind two high level players players in Liam Clifford Liam Clifford 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR St. Xavier | 2021 State OH (Penn State commit) and Jalen Patterson. Playing at Saint X McFarlin sees no shortage in competition and in X’s schedule. I’ll be very interested to see how he develops both this offseason and in his senior season. He could be a quick riser and someone that I think has D1 potential.
Ben Ireland Ben Ireland 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Findlay | 2022 OH 6’0 175 (C/O 2022) Findlay HS- Ireland comes off as the quiet type, but his play speaks loud. When you watch him play the first thing that pops is his speed. Ireland won fastest man at the showcase. He causes issues for corners because his speed has to be respected which creates space for plays to be made underneath. Ben has the speed and ability to play D1 football, it’s time someone gives this kid a chance!
RJ Mukes 6’0 170 (C/O 2023) Wayne HS- The amount of talent rolling through Huber Heights Wayne these days is nothing short of astounding. I highlighted Ray Greene at running back. At wide receiver the breadwinner is RJ Mukes. Mukes has the versatility that he could play in the lot or on the outside. At this point I like RJ more as a slot, but I could easily see him growing into a Z. Mukes is a very polished route runner for a Sophomore. His explosiveness combined with his route running is what allows him to shake loose of defenders.
DeAngelo Borders 5’10 170 (C/O 2022) Berea-Midpark HS- Borders projects to a slot at the college level. He has good short space quickness and good suddenness in his route running. He has the ability to make guys miss after the catch as well.
