Continue ReadingThe Pierre TF Riggs Governors just won their fourth straight State Title in 2020. They went 9-2 on the year, losing to Yankton and Brookings in the regular season, but then avenging those losses in the playoffs. Based on that stat alone, showed that Pierre is a team that can make adjustments on the fly and ultimately find a way to win. When I watched them on offense, their scheme seemed fairly simple, but extremely effective. A straight smash-mouth game, linemen and tight ends lining up and just going straight after their opponent, then spreading you out and attacking you with speed in the pass and run games. There was very little pulling in the offense, which is what made it a simple zone running offense, while passing with many different route combos to keep the defense off-balance. Defensively, they seemed to be in a 3-4 or a 3-3-5, a lot of moving parts in the defensive backfield but still the same concept as offense. They had a strong front in the box and used their speed on the outside to bring pressure. While they graduate an impressive class of Seniors, they will return a group of athletes that will be just as impressive in 2021.

Players Returning:
QB/DB- Lincoln Keinholz really took command of the Governor offense this year and was a vital piece in it. He has good touch on the ball, is very patient making good throws, and can break off big gains with his legs too.
WR/DB- Jack Merkwan was a good speed threat on the offensive side and was good in the zone defense as well. He runs good routes to get open and a good set of hands to be a reliable target.
