This past week after hitting the beach for a few days, the Raptors powerful, versatile back headed down to New Orleans and the “Big Easy” to take in the sights and sounds around Tulane University.
The Green Wave officially offered Smitherman not too long ago and with spring break on hand, it felt like a great time to check out Tulane and the Williamson County native is glad that he decided to go.
“I wasn’t able to get the full visit, the full layout but I did get to walk around campus and check out everything and from what I was able to see and do, I liked it a lot,” Smitherman said. “It was a nice place sitting in a great city. It’s definitely somewhere I’d like to get back and see again, especially in more depth.”
Tulane has been very active recruiting the state of Tennessee over the past couple of years and this season it appears to be no different as Smitherman is one of a handful of in-state prospects that sit with current Roll Wave offers.
Standing 6’0 and a little over 200 pounds, Smitherman is a physically built young man that has the body to play college ball right now but of course needs to keep working on his craft and bettering his game in any way possible.
The Green Wave coaching staff targeted the Raptors back early on before offering him as a power back that can do a variety of things in the backfield from blocking, receiving or being that home run hitter.
Even though Smitherman wasn’t able to meet with the Tulane coaches or check much of the athletic facilities, he did get to see plenty of the campus and surrounding areas to want to come back and of course remain in close touch with Green Wave coaching staff going forward.
“It was a great experience overall for me at Tulane. I wish I could have done more but I understand how it is right now. I definitely plan to stay in touch with them going forward and Tulane will remain on my list as a contender.”
Smitherman has the lone offer from Tulane and will keep them at the top of his list but he does have interest from several others and he will remain open to all.
According to the Raptors rising senior, Cincinnati and Wake Forest are two other schools showing strong interest and Smitherman does plan to visit both programs over the coming months.
The recruiting process is a long one but can be fulfilling and informative. That’s the process Smitherman is currently in as he is generating more interest while taking in all the info he can about what schools think of him.
No matter what happens over time, the Tulane Green Wave football program has positioned themselves well with Smitherman and his recent visit to the “Nola” will not go unnoticed.
