Prep Redzone Oklahoma was on hand for the Sooner7 Classic 7v7 tournament in Broken Arrow over the weekend and we saw some outstanding football from start to finish. Over the next few days, we’ll be highlighting some of the teams and players we saw at the event. In this article, I’ll be going over some of the best performers of the weekend that I saw first hand. Be sure to stay locked into the website for more coverage from the Sooner7 Classic and as always you can follow us on Twitter for all the latest in high school football in Oklahoma. @PrepRedzoneOK
Gunnar Jeffrey Thrash Gunnar Jeffrey Thrash 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Perkins-Tryon | 2022 OK – 2022 QB – Perkins-Tryon (Sooner7 Black 18U)
The first player on this list is one that I was not entirely familiar with coming into the tournament but is certainly one I left Broken Arrow very impressed with after the pool play round. Thrash only attempted a handful of varsity passes in 2020 and served as the backup to Austin Mages Austin Mages 6'1" | ATH Perkins-Tryon | 2021 State OK but had some encouraging plays on tape and is already showing that Perkins is going to be in great hands with him at the helm in 2021. Thrash split time pretty evenly to start on Saturday but would end up taking the majority of snaps by the time their last game rolled around and was a key factor in Sooner7 Black’s dominant 4-0 performance on Saturday. Make sure to check our Twitter page to see a couple of Thrash’s best throws from the weekend that we captured live.
Korbyn Green Korbyn Green 6'1" | DB Owasso | 2022 State OK – 2022 DB – Owasso (Sooner7 Black 18U)
Green, who has recently transferred to Owasso, was one of the most impressive DBs I saw in the whole tournament across all states. He played mostly at CB with a little bit of safety action mixed in but was at his best and an absolute nightmare for opposing WRs all weekend when lined up out wide. He played mostly press-man coverage and rarely lost a rep 1on1 much less allow a catch. Green is currently a top 50 player for us in the class of 2022 but after seeing him up close and personal this weekend I think we may be a little low on him. If he continues to play at this high of a level over the spring and summer and into the 2021 season it will be hard not to shoot him up our rankings.
Braylin Presley Braylin Presley 5'9" | RB Bixby | 2022 State OK – 2022 RB – Bixby (Sooner7 Black 18U)
While he may not have had the production that Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK or a few others did over the weekend, Braylin Presley Braylin Presley 5'9" | RB Bixby | 2022 State OK was still one of the most enjoyable players to watch. When at these competitions there are so many good players on the field at all times that some of them start to look very similar if you don’t stay alert and observant but that is definitely not the case with Braylin, he is going to stand out no matter who he’s up against. His ability to accelerate, decelerate, and then accelerate again, all in the blink of an eye, is among the best I’ve ever seen in person for a high school athlete. Without pads, there is usually not a whole lot of yards to be gained after the catch in 7v7, however, Presley’s speed was often enough to outrun even the best of angles to gain some significant yards after the catch. He looks so natural catching the ball out of the backfield that most people who are not familiar with him at the tournament thought he was a slot WR. Presley is going to frustrate a lot of teams on the 7v7 circuit this year.
Sedrick Frazier Sedrick Frazier 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Edmond North | 2023 State OK Jr – 2023 WR/DB – Edmond North (Sooner7 ’23 18U)
Frazier, another player that we had heard about but had not seen much of, had one of the better performances over the weekend, which is very impressive considering the team he plays on and the success they had this weekend. Frazier flashed some nice route running and burst on Saturday, caught a boatload of touchdowns, and stepped up hugely after Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK tweaked his ankle and chose to play it safe and sit out the rest of the tournament. Sedrick played all over the formation as a WR and ended up as one of Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6'4" | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK ’s go-to targets as teams began to take note of Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK and Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK . Frazier is definitely a name to keep on your radar as he will be in our rankings and on many recruiting boards sooner rather than later.
Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK – 2023 DB – Del City (Sooner7 ’23 18U)
Our last player was only at the tournament on Sunday because he also plays basketball for Del City and had a playoff game on Saturday. However, Kanijal shined when he got his chance on Sunday and was a crucial part of Sooner7 23’s run to the championship where they fell just short of winning the whole tournament. He mostly played at safety on Sunday and had a no fly zone going for the majority of the day until their final game. Thomas is already one of the top prospects in the 2023 class but I still feel like he is just approaching the surface of what he is truly capable of when you look at his athletic profile and instincts on the field. We can’t wait to see more of him on the football field this summer after basketball comes to a close.
