This game finished 35-0 in St. John’s favor, but each team had their standout performances. Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD led the St. Johns offense, finishing with 7 Car., 170 yards, and 2 TDs. And on defense, both teams had linebackers that were all over the field, Rohan Davy for St. John’s, and Brock Butler for Bishop McNamara.
Here’s how these players caught the eye in their first game back!
Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD , St. John’s, RB, 5’6″ 170lbs, 2022
One of the top performers of the day, Jamar showed why his recruiting process should be heating up after the spring season. As a running back you do not get more efficient than 170 yards and 2 touchdowns on 7 carries. He showed the burst of speed he possesses in the open field. He forced missed tackles on each run and made it nearly impossible to be tackled in the open field. On both of his touchdown runs, defenders had angles to tackle him in the open field. With his speed and vision, all he had to do change direction once, and the defender had no chance. Jamar already holds FBS offers from Temple, Buffalo, Marshall, and The United States Naval Academy. After this performance, it is clear that more offers should be on the horizon for Jamar Curtis Jamar Curtis 5'6" | 170 lbs | RB St. John's (DC) | 2022 State MD .
Rohan Davy, St. John’s, LB, 5’9″ 195lbs, 2023
Rohan was all over the field for the St. John’s defense on Saturday. What stood out was his ability to go sideline-to-sideline. He consistently chased down outside runs to the sideline, showcasing the speed he possesses. Rohan did a good job when having to tackle in the open field. His fundamentals are sound, which allows him to always be in good positions. And, when he is in a good position, he can lower the boom on any ballcarrier. Several times on Saturday, Rohan got big reactions from teammates and fans when hitting the ballcarrier. He possesses a very good skill set as a sophomore that will continue to be on display during this restart. Rohan currently holds offers from Maryland and Pittsburgh but, with more games like Saturday, he will only see that number continue to grow.
Brock Butler, Bishop McNamara, 5’9″ 170lbs, 2022
Like his counter-part on St. Johns, Brock was all over the field for Bishop McNamara. Brock is on the smaller side, but you would not know that by the way he plays. Nothing demonstrated this more than a goal-line stand early in the game. On four straight plays, the defense stalled St. John’s running game to force a turnover-on-downs. On the last two plays, Brock attacked the line of scrimmage and met the running back in the hole. This showed the mentality and effort that he plays with on that defense. He spent most of the day blitzing and used his speed to get into the backfield. This spring season will give Brock a chance to demonstrate his development and be a big part of the Bishop McNamara defense.
