We will be taking a look at players from around the state that you should keep your eye on each week. We plan to release one, possibly two stories each week with this new series.
Lugoff Elgin – 2022 WR Blease Campbell
2020 Season Stats (6 games) – 20 receptions, 608 yards, 6 TDs
Analysis: Campbell is a smooth route runner who really shows off his speed once he gets into the open field. But he can make the high point catches as well at the slot and outside position. His impact is felt on special teams as he’s a threat to create long returns or possibly to the house for six points. We noticed one play where he went up and made the catch in traffic for a touchdown. He’s also an outstanding blocker who really works to sustain them. He is an outstanding student in the classroom with a 4.7 GPA.
Ridge View – 2022 QB Andre Washington
Analysis: Washington is listed at 6’5, 210-pounds and is a dynamic dual threat. He has a nice velocity on his throws, particularly on throws in the middle of the field. He knows how to escape pressure and put his head down and get a few extra yards if a throw isn’t there. There was one play where he made a throw on the run on a rope to the sideline where the receiver was able to keep running for a touchdown. The All-Region selection doesn’t appear to have any offers at the moment but was invited to the Elite 11 showcase so expect that to change soon.
Ridge View – 2022 DL Antonio Gaines
Analysis: You don’t have to watch the film long to see Gaines flash. At 6’4, 335 pounds, he’s a nightmare for offensive lineman to block. He has violent hands and knocks the lineman back at the snap at the ball at the tackle position. He forced a few fumbles and is a challenge to run the ball against because even if you get started as a running back, he takes solid pursuit angles to limit the gain. He is starting to rake in the offers, including ones from UNC-Charlotte and Coastal Carolina University. He is a solid student with a 3.0 GPA.
Clover – 2023 QB Joe Boyd
Analysis: Boyd has a cannon for an arm and can launch it down field. He can make throws against pressure and put it where only his receiver can get it. He can also extend plays, making them on the run to where his receiver can catch it in stride. We noticed it on one play as he rolled out to his left and recognized the void in the coverage for a touchdown.
