Stock Risers: 2023 QBs To Know
As always, there are quite a few quarterbacks coming into their junior season with something to prove. This is a crucial year for quarterbacks who should be coming into their own and should be able to thrive in their 3rd high school season. The 2023 class appears to be deep at quarterback once again, but there are plenty who are looking to have a breakout season and get their recruitment kicked off.
Here are a few 2023 QBs on the verge of breakout junior seasons this fall.
Abe Stowe – Wilcox County
Down in Rochelle is where you’ll find one of the top young QBs across the state. The 6-foot-1 170-pounder earned an offer from Presbyterian College after a strong sophomore season and could see more coming his way if he continues to develop the way most think he will. Not only does he have a live arm, but Stowe is a smart player with a high football IQ who also shows strong leadership traits. Stowe moves really well in the pocket and shows great footwork for someone his age. He doesn’t break down early and knows how to extend plays behind the line of scrimmage while still looking down the field to find receivers. He has a strong arm and likes to push the ball down the field when given an opportunity. He has an athletic build and has a chance to continue developing his body and adding muscle this spring and summer. He has a bright future and could be one of the state’s best this time next year. A two sport-star, Stowe also plays shortstop and hits leadoff for the No.6-ranked Wilcox County baseball team. In the weight room, Stowe is bench-pressing 240-pounds, squatting 350-pounds, and cleaning 225-pounds. Through the regular season last year, Stowe threw for over 1,600 yards and 20 TDs. He also rushed for over 340 yards and rushed for 8 more touchdowns.
Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA – South Forsyth
Not many know his name now, but there’s a chance that most people will know it by the end of the 2023 season. The South Forsyth starter is expected to have a big junior season in the War Eagles’ pass-happy offense and is ready for the challenge. He has a lot of raw arm potential and is working hard in the weight room to put on more muscle on his throwing arm. He’s a good runner as well, but Watkins is working hard on his speed, which could really lead to some attention on the recruiting trail. He has good size at 6-foot-2 212-pounds and he’ll only get bigger and stronger this off-season. His arm is good enough for him to have a lot of success this fall, but if he can turn his legs into a weapon as well, Watkins has a chance to be one of the biggest breakout QBs across the state. He’s certainly a new starting QB to keep an eye on this fall.
Owen Booker – Northwest Whitfield
Another under the radar QB to know from North Georgia is the 6-foot-0 185-pounder from Tunnel Hill. The dual-threat playmaker is one of the most competitive players you’ll find in the region and is incredibly cerebral. He’s started for two years now and is going into his third year as the starter. Not only was Booker productive all season, but he made his biggest plays in the biggest moments. Booker helped lead one of the biggest drives in school history in the playoffs against Stephenson last fall where he executed two 4th-downs and lead his team to victory. As a sophomore last fall, Booker threw for 2,276 yards and 20 TDs. He also rushed for 250 yards and 6 more scores. He’s tough, he’s a leader, and he has a win-at-all-cost attitude. As good as they were last season, look for Northwest Whitfield to have an even better year in 2021 thanks for Booker.
