Though that may be true, a large part of a quarterbacks performance has to do with the weapons he has at his disposal. The game of football has progressively moved towards a pass dominant game over the last couple of decades, and it’s more important than ever to have elite size and speed at the wide receiver position than ever. Take a look at these four weapons in Michigan.
Christian Rapley Christian Rapley 6'0" | 185 lbs | ATH Belleville | 2022 State MI , 6’0, 185, Belleville
Rapley comes from a top program in the state, and has certainly been an integral part of the team at Belleville over the last few years. Speed is one of the first key separators at the high school level, and Rapley has that, and then some. He can play both on the inside, and the outside, and he’s a nightmare when allowed into the open field.
Antonio Gates Jr., 6’3, 185, Fordson
Of course, the name rings a bell. The son of the legendary Chargers tight end, Gates Jr. is already making his own name. He’s a top high school recruit and a dominant force at the high school level. He’s go an outstanding frame, something that always stands out for a dominant wide receiver, and his speed will give him lifetime bragging rights towards his father. Gates Jr. takes the height os his father, but with a more nimble body and higher level burst to his game. All in all, he’s got the looks of something special and could absolutely be in the hunt for the top player in Michigan honors.
Jaden Mangham Jaden Mangham 6'3" | 185 lbs | ATH Birmingham Groves | 2022 State MI , 6’3, 185, Birmingham Groves
Mangham has a long frame and lots of room to continue adding weight as he evolve his game. He’s a long stride runner, and a top level weapon in the air. He’s unguardable on fade routes into the end zone, and pretty much anything down the sideline. He has a chance to continue his success during his senior season, and also at the higher levels of football. Not only does he have the size to outjump anyone on the field, he runs very fluidly in and out of his breaks and doesn’t have a habit of taking many false steps, as a lesser athlete may.
Kyle Vanderjagt, 6’2, 180, Northview
Vanderjagt comes in as the number four receiver in the class of 2022, though he may have a case as an underrated player in the overall rankings. His speed will only continue to improve, and he really has a good knack for finding the soft spots in the defense, and being a reliable weapon for his quarterback. Every passer has their favorite players to throw to, and Vanderjagt has the look of one of those sorts of weapons. He is a dual-sport athlete, and an absolute star on the basketball court, so it’ll be interesting to see where his career takes him.
